One of our core values here at Southview Baptist Church is prayer. We value prayer as an amazing privilege of speaking with our Father, the King of the Universe, expressing and enjoying intimacy with Him.

Paul's closing remarks to Timothy are still applicable for believers today. We are instructed to guard the Gospel, for the greatest danger we face is to mishandle the truth of God's Word. We are reminded to avoid the godless chatter of those who claim to preach truth, but in reality they preach falsehoods and lies. Finally, we are told to rely on God's grace as we seek to honor Him with our lives.

Most Americans are in the 1% wealthiest category in the world! Couple that with our consumeristic society and it can become easy to make our wealth our idol. God reminds us, however, that wealth is temporary and uncertain. God is the true giver of all things and He calls us to honor Him by doing what is good, being rich in good works, being generous and being willing to share.

As we consider that God is unapproachable, invisible, incomparable, perfect and holy in all His ways, we should stand in awe that the Creator of the universe loved us enough to come down in earthly form to save us from our sins. What a Mighty and Glorious God we serve!

What comes to mind when you think about God? To be sure, each of us may give slightly different answers if asked this simple yet important question. We must always make sure what we think is true of God lines up with what scripture says is true of God.

God encourages us to flee worldliness, follow Christlikeness, fight for the Faith and firmly grasp onto eternal life.

In every circumstance in life, whether of the greatest joy or the greatest sorrow, we can praise God. We can rest in His grace, rejoice in His provision and rely on His strength to get us through whatever comes our way...for He is able.

Even in the midst of discipline, God offers believers hope. We are reminded through scripture that we are not to put our faith in man-made things, but rather on Jesus Christ alone.
