A special message for Palm Sunday 2017.

Deacons, similar to the Overseers, are called to live their lives above reproach. Scripture tells the church to pray and fast over the choosing of our leaders. Why? Because it is critically important that we lead well, that our witness be found not lacking anything so that the unbelieving world may see the grace, mercy and beauty of Christ in us.

In chapter 3 of 1 Timothy, the Apostle Paul lays out the qualifications for leaders in the church. He covers general qualifications but also touches on the moral, spiritual, public and home lives of the would-be leaders. Why? Because if we are to honor Christ and be effective in spreading His gospel, we must have leaders who are above reproach in their lives.

In msg #5 of our Build Strong sermon series, we review 1 Timothy 2:8-15 and begin looking at guidelines for the gathered church. Men are called to resolve all differences before coming together in a corporate worship setting, women are called to present themselves modestly and in all things all believers are called to value Christ above all other things. Only when we put Jesus in His rightful place as the head of our church, our families and our lives will we truly be able to build a strong church.

The Apostle Paul reminds Timothy that he is to stand firm, to call out false prophets and to pray for everyone, not excluding anyone. When we do this, we honor God and those who need Him.

As believers, we need to be in continual fellowship with God and with other believers. We need to invest in each others' lives, discipling one another in order to build a strong foundation for Christ. We need to stay connected to the "army" and stay engaged in the spiritual battle.

You were saved, first and foremost, for the glory of God. The Apostle Paul recognized that the good of his life and ministry were completely the result of God's amazing grace. In Paul's life, we are reminded that no one is too far gone for the mercy and grace of God to transform. And in this truth, we proclaim that the Gospel is to be celebrated and shared.
