Our union with Christ is the foundation for unity between believers in the church. Safeguard the unity of the church by doing the works of mortification and sanctification. Be motivated in these works by love for other believers in your church, in order to bring about the peace of Christ.

This passage points us to spiritual realities. What we can see with our eyes and what we experience in this life is real - the danger and difficulty of life should never be discounted or belittled. But if we do not see with eyes of faith, having our understanding enlightened by the Spirit, then we are only grasping part of reality. This sermon reminds us of the reality of God's powerful protection over His church especially in times when the church comes under attack.

With his resurrection, Christ put the greatest all powers and authorities to shame. As a result, we are liberated from the religious demands and activities that man has created.
