  • How to Win Your Culture
Morning. Good morning. Welcome. We’re also trying to coordinate with Mother’s Day. We’re also trying to coordinate like a five plane jet fly over to, you know, summarize our service for your mom’s. We want to honor your mom’s. It’s epic work you all are doing at home. And so thank you for coming. We are just orient you. We are in weak, weak. Four of our first peter series are real ID series. Looking at our identity we have in christ I think we’ll be finishing this series if all goes well sometime in june as a church. So it’s been really good. I I like to look at a question attention. Some of you probably have seen heard felt or tasted as a christian here in Lincoln Nebraska. Many of you have heard the questions or thoughts out there. Maybe even in here in this room of the bible is a dead archaic, out of touch book that has no relevance in our lives. It’s racist, it’s sexist, it’s an angry ancient literature that is oppressive in nature. You might have heard that, or for my kids, you might have heard things like how can you read this? This doesn’t have any pictures, you know? So it’s it’s an interesting, interesting argument to tee up and so I know our culture today is dealing with a lot of things that the culture in the day. Peter wrote to the audience of the target audience of churches in the area of Kansas in Nebraska, that that demographic area spread out over those are two state region here. There’s a network of churches that Peter wrote this letter to And this letter was read to the churches when they gather and it was circulated among those churches. And in first Peter 16 that talks about how the church is. The believers are grieved with trials of various kinds and the trials that we’ve just remind you of the trials that they’re grieved with. The trials they’re dealing with is racial, political, economic social. There is quite a similarity to what the Peter is writing to and who we are living through as christians here in Lincoln Nebraska. There’s a lot of carry over between between those two worlds, colliding. Um, the Bible is a timeless book that speaks to all times, especially this time that we’re living in its Christians. There’s passages and those principles that speak to us as believers living in Lincoln Nebraska in the year 2021 that do have a high degree of relativity and impact into our life, into what we’re hearing from our culture today. I am encouraged looking through this, but I do feel like the trials that we face of many is kind of various kinds. It’s one thing to have external public trials, doesn’t think nothing of an internal private trial. And I it feels like this christian walk, it doesn’t feel like a casual strolls on the beach when things are tough, God carried me. You know, it doesn’t feel like that, like some of you might have seen that bookmark as a kid, none of you have seen that bookmark as a kid, it seems like from your faces, but it doesn’t feel like a casual stroll on a sunny day. My christian life feels like a UFC fight. One corner is me, the other corner is everything else. And sometimes the external big public trials, they hit you, you take some blows, you drop a few, but you get your butt kicked basically. But the internal private trials on top of that, and you feel like you get your head clock, do you feel like you got rings, you lost your balance, you lost your spiritual wind and you sit down in your corner and you catch your breath, drink a little bit of water. You have to go back out again day after day and as time goes on, life goes on and we get pounded as christians are walk of God feels like a UFC cage fighting. So it could be a good round, it could be a bad round. I don’t know what your last week was like, but I do think this is sage timely words from peter to the first century chu…

  • What Does It Mean To Be a Living Stone
Okay, well welcome. My name is Ben Lander Pastor here at sewer church. Thank you for joining us here either in person or online. Turn with me to 1st Peter chapter two We’ll be working through vs one through 10 today. A few years ago I had the chance to be involved with building house and one of the things we want to do is build a garage. This is the first time that I was involved with building a garage and so I learned a lot. And one of the things I learned is just how important the foundation is when you’re building a structure. And so the foundation, the footings, it had to be, you know, solid, we had to dig down deep so it’s below the frost line. So you know, it wouldn’t be affected by the winter and summer thought and all that kind of stuff. You had to have it solid square, you know, because the pad that your car sits on the structure itself, the wood, all of it is sitting on this foundation. And so if the foundation is bad, then the house is bad. Foundation is good and solid, then you’re good on your garage. And our passage today talks about how when someone comes to christ becomes a disciple of jesus, that jesus makes them into a living stone and he’s a cornerstone, he’s the foundation that this spiritual house is being built upon. And the passage also lays out how we are priests. So this series title is called Real ID. And so there’s two different identities to different aspects of who we are in christ that we’re talking about this morning. One is that we’re living stones and the others that were priests. Okay. And so we’re going to be looking through the passage and looking at what those means. Uh, but before we do, let’s pray and then turn with me to first peter chapter two versus one through 10, Lord jesus. We ask you to speak to us this morning. We ask you to take and make your word living and active in our hearts and our lives encourages challenges, strengthen us, refresh us from your word. And uh we pray that you would speak, enlighten the eyes of our heart. Lord in jesus name Amen. So I’m going to read the passage in its entirety and then we’ll go back and work through the first three verses here to start. Therefore rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy envy and all slander like newborn infants desire the pure milk of the word so that you may grow up into your salvation if you have tasted that the Lord is good as you come to him, A living stone rejected by people but chosen an honor by God. You yourselves as living stones. A spiritual house are being built to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through jesus christ. For it stands in scripture. See I lay a stone in Zion. Had chosen an honored cornerstone and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame. So honor will come to you who believe. But for the unbelieving the stone, the builders rejected this one has become the cornerstone and a stone to stumble over in Iraq. To trip over. They stumble because they disobey the word. They were destined for this. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation of people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises the one who called you out of darkness and into his marvelous light. Once you are not a people, but now you are God’s people, you have not received mercy. But now you have received mercy. So you have to remember as we read this passage here, that back in the day there was no numbers, no verses and it would be kind of unnatural to just all of a sudden stop at the end of chapter one and to continue on a week later in chapter two. And so this is a series of continual thoughts. And so we have to remember and we have to turn back in starting to look at chapter two verse one. You have to remember. Okay, he says, therefore that’s the first wo…

  • Love God with All Your Mind
Hi, good morning. Um my name is a nine Scherer, my wife and I help direct the college ministry here. And this morning we’re gonna be continuing our series. This is just the second week um of our series in first Peter. Uh so if you missed first week, um you kind of missed uh not a lot, but pretty much to set up. So I’ll overview it a little bit, but you’re not too far behind, it’s gonna be okay. Um So yeah, we’re mike last week um kind of set us up perfectly. Um and the title for the entire series, um as you noticed what’s called Real Identity, and it’s this idea that as christians, we want to have a real identity in christ. And basically what this letter is in first Peter, what this letter is is a letter written by um Peter or spoken by Peter and take into these churches that are in exile, they’re being persecuted against. It’s tough. Um and they’re discouraged, right? And Peter, what he’s trying to do is is given encouraging kind of exhortation to them and saying, hey, you know, you chose to follow jesus, you chose to say yes. And so this is what your identity looks like. This is now who you are, have confidence in this, This is a good thing. And furthermore, while he’s explaining that he’s kind of going over what it actually means to have an identity in jesus. Um and so I’m going to pray real quick. Um and then we’re gonna get into first peter um starting in verse 13. So let me pray and if you would just pray with me and then we’ll jump in heavenly Father, just thank you for this time. Thank you for your word. Um God thank you for um your son, jesus and God that we can and put our identity into you God and that we can be called something different. Something new. God that you are loving. You are kind. You are merciful. I’m thankful for you. God. Would you just allow me to speak truth today? Um and and and would your word and your spirit be in this room with us? God, we love you and we praise you and your name. I pray amen. Um before we start, you know, you know, one more thing I think that um you know, you might be like ah here we go again. Because if you’ve grown up in church, you’ve probably heard this phrase so often, right? Like let’s be real. You’ve heard this idea of Fine Dragon, any of jesus find your identity and jesus, you’ve heard this so much. So you might be like, I got this one in the bag. Maybe you haven’t, Maybe you have it. Well, that’s even better. I I have growing up, I heard this a lot. Find your identity in jesus, but sometimes it happens so often it’s spoken to us um assuming that we know what that even means. And so I think what’s great about this chapter here in verse Peter is he’s going to take a real practical look at one step that we can take to find our identity in jesus by no means, am I saying this is the whole thing, right? I’m not going through the whole bible today, this is one step. And this is a this is a great, great first step. That’s why it’s towards the beginning of the letter, a great first step. If you’re like, yes, You know, I want I want to follow Jesus, this is an amazing first step to hone in on focusing on and say, you know, I might not be able to do everything all at once tomorrow, but I can focus on this, I can take this one step towards finding my identity in Christ. So here we go. I hope you’re excited, I’m ready verse 13. Here we go. This is therefore preparing your minds for action and being sober minded. Set your hope fully on the grace that we brought to you at the revelation of jesus christ. And I’m going to pause for a second and just sit here a little bit before we move on. We have to get this verse, we can’t miss it, we can’t miss this verse. I I think the rest of what’s gonna happen. Um it’s still it’s kind of standing on this verse. So we got to get it. Um you know, we’…

  • Hopelessly Hopeful
Amen. Amen. Welcome. Thank you for coming. I feel like I have to make a disclaimer every spring after easter for a few weeks when these trees are budding, there’s a lot of tree pollen and then I’m just dying. So I had my chemical concoction, perfect for first service. Um but now it’s fading so you’re gonna hear? Miked up man, struggling the clearest throat as we work here, we’ll see what happens. So just a disclaimer. Um uh I feel we have to do that right now in this culture that we’re in. Um just another announcement in light of what’s happening of our rates and vaccination availability, what’s going on in our country and our county specifically, we’re just gonna kinda officially make the announcement. This service is the mask optional service. Um We won’t shine you if you have a mask on. But the first services the mass required service, I think most of us have known that but we thought we should just officially say that. So hopefully God willing things will keep trending in the right direction and we’ll keep moving into this direction as a people. So just a random awkward announcement. I have allergies and this is a mask optional service. So, um, All right. So that’s the smoothest intro I’ve ever done as a pastor. So let’s transition now to the message. Uh, so welcome. Thank you for coming. Let me, let me read a little excerpt of a, an article that ran the new york times. It says in five minutes. He lets the blind see he has restored eyesight to more than 100,000 people. Perhaps more than any doctor in history. His patients stagger and grope their way to him along mountain trails from a remote village, is hoping to go under the scalpel. One day after he operates here moves the cat from them, ruining the cataracts. He pulls the bandages off and they can see clearly at first tentatively, then jubilantly they gaze about and for a few hours later they walk home, radiant flowing of joy dr Sandy Hook Ruit a nepali orthodontist has pioneered a simple cataract microscopic surgery That costs only $25 per patient and is virtually always successful. His technique is matching Western machines which have a 98 success rate with this simple cataract surgery. You see, we as people are our hope oriented creatures. We hear articles like that. We feel good about ourselves. We’re excited numbers and going down and Covid in our county. We’re excited about the progress we’re making. We’re excited about vaccines. Maybe. You know, there’s things we hear that make us hope swell in our hearts. We are hope oriented people. Your belief about the future, your future radically changes how you experience, your present, your present life. Our title for this sermon today is hopelessly hopeful. We as americans, we as people are hopelessly hopeful people, that’s who we are. It’s hard wired into our psyche. I’m a recovering optimist. I’m actually a painfully positive person and it’s hard for Shane and Benaco Pastor for painfully positive pastor because I just, there’s reality. Then there’s my hopeful reality. And Shane. A Ben Give me grace as we work together here. Every culture has a culture of hope. Every city, every public has a has a view of how to have hope as a people. They answer the questions what is the purpose of life? There’s a hopeful answer to that question. What is the, what is the answer? The question why life is not pointless. They answer the question, What should you be living for? There’s hope that we have as hopelessly hopeful americans. So what does hope? We needed to find our terms? Like any conversation we’re gonna have together, we needed to explain what we’re saying. The greek word for hope definitely defined as a strong expectation. The hebrew word for hope means there’s real anticipation. Something better is coming along. Something that …

  • When We Encounter Jesus
Good morning. Good morning Church. Thank you for coming. Welcome. It’s good to be if you on easter morning, if you knew this isn’t a corporate event that you’re crashing, This isn’t a wedding uh, reception that you’re crashing, crashing. This is the gathered, uh, body of Solar Church Church and so friends, family, visitors. Welcome. We’re glad you’re here with us. As we look to the bible, look to the Lord in prayer as we reflect on what happened this morning in christian history, I’m gonna try to do my best to define terms and avoids specialized jargon. Uh, first question you all have in your mind is why is my pastor wearing a jacket? Well, it’s easy. The camera adds £15 and a jacket takes off 20. So that’s the obvious reason if you didn’t know that. So, but let’s uh, let’s pray, let’s look to the Lord as we work through this topic here. Lord, thank you for today. I thank you for what you’re doing in all of our lives. We we need you got to bring clarity. We need you to bring conviction Lord, We need you to give us courage. Lord to be the men and women have called us to be I said you to instruct us and make us hungry for your word. I pray that you would encourage us in your word, impressed deep into our souls any lesson that you want to teach us out of the word of God this morning, we commit this time to you in jesus’ name. Amen. Okay, so what is going on in Christianity? Why are all of your friends who are usually quiet on social media, posting and sharing easter memes and easter stuff? So I like to just give you a little update on holy week and what that is. And so we me and Jordan have pulled together a slide here that we’d like to work through some photos talking through the historical timeline of holy week leading up to this morning, resurrection sunday easter morning and so last sunday across the world, most of Christianity celebrated palm sunday, it’s when jesus coming in and trample entry into the capital city of Jerusalem, the people are throwing down palm branches and they were throwing down coats to honor the coming messiah. His popularity was at an all time high. Everything he said, everything he did went viral. People loved him. It was a highlight reel of jesus. He just got done healing, a dramatic healing of a three day dead Lazarus who was dead in the tomb for three days, he healed him and brought him out of out of the grave, jesus celebrity, he’s at the peak of his popularity and then monday comes on monday, you see jesus is just his savage, he goes rogue, he’s flipping tables, making whips, driving out the money exchangers are taking advantage of people. And during the largest building on the largest jewish holiday of the year and he completely empties the building physically clears out the biggest building on the busiest day and he calls out the religious leaders, his enemies. It’s a huge, it’s an epic day. The city is on pins and needles, This young rabbi who’s been tearing it up all around the surrounding country and the surrounding cities have finally come to the largest city in the jewish population and scholars shared an analogy which I’m gonna, there’s uh, if you ever like grab the beehive and shook in the beehive, I haven’t either. The closest I did as a boy was my mom had these garden and she’d have miracles around the garden to keep stuff away and I would go along and I grab a B and I’d shake it in my hand and throw it down. I’d run away my sisters and I would run away until I got stung by a bee in the hand and then I stopped doing that, Jesus took the religious elite leaders of the capital city of Jerusalem on monday he violently shook them to their core, every one of them is mad at him, All of Jesus’ rivals, all of his enemies. They’ve all consolidated forces, they have one objective and that’s to tak…

  • Finding Strength in God
Ben Lander and glad to be a pastor here at our church. For those of you who are new here in this room or new with us online, you have the opportunity this morning to finish with us. The book of first Samuel. We’ve been working for about 18 weeks through the book of First Samuel, and today we’re bringing it to a close, and so we’re going to have a short Easter series, and then we’re going to begin in the book of First Peter. And so that’s exciting. That’s what’s coming up, something to look forward to. But it’s been a really good journey. We’ve been going through this narrative, these stories of Saul and David, and I just want to remind you kind of where we’ve come from this. This story is connected to chapters 27 28 And so, just to briefly remind you of where we’ve come from Chapter 27 we see David take things into his own hands and he decides, You know what I am afraid of, Saul. I’ve been running from Saul for so long. I just I’d be safer if I could just get out of Israel and so in fear he acts and he decides to leave Israel. He runs back to the same guy, hawkish, the same philistine that he ran to before that. We looked at halfway through the book, the guy where David was acting like a crazy man and letting his spit drool down his beard and and a key. She’s like, I don’t need more crazy people around here to get out of here. Well, he runs back to the same guy and he doesn’t inquire The Lord. He doesn’t trust Lord, he just runs and he’s out of there. And then, um, he does some some wild things. He basically starts and engages in guerilla warfare, where he’s in Zeke Lag and him and his men then start to conduct these raids on these small, outlying villages of Philistines. And what they do is they commit genocide. They exterminate every single person, man, woman and child in these little villages because they don’t want any word getting back to a fish that this is happening. And so they are doing all of that. Chapter 29 picks up with all of the Philistine forces gathering together and getting ready to fight Israel. Okay, um, and they conduct this military parade, and so they have all of these different forces kind of trumped by the leaders of the Philistines, and they are kind of loosely connected. You know, Philistines are loosely connected as a group of people, but they really have a number of separate areas that are led by different men. And so they each ruled separately. But then they kind of gathered together and say, We’re going to take on Israel here in this battle. And the other philistine leaders see David and his men in a Kesha’s forces. And they’re like, Wait a second here. This is the guy. You know who this is. You know, they go to occasions like this. Is David the guy who took out Goliath, right? This is the guy who they sing songs about. Saul has killed his thousands. David his tens of thousands. And don’t you realize many of those thousands are us, right? They were not happy there, like this guy is going to turn on us. And so David and his crew get kicked out of this military parade and then and he’s just like you got to go home And so they head back to their temporary home in the philistine country called Zik Lag. Remember David’s doing his own thing. He didn’t consult the Lord, he didn’t. He just acted out of fear. And he took his men and all of their families, everybody, and packed it up and went to Zeke leg. So I’m going to pray, and then we’re gonna pick up. We’re gonna spend most of our time in First Samuel, Chapter 30. So turn with me there. While I pray when we pray that you speak to us this morning from your word, we pray that you would, uh, speak to us through these principles and help us help us open up the eyes of our hearts to your word. Today in Jesus’ name. Amen. Okay. So David and his men reached sic…

  • 1 Samuel 27-28
Good morning, everybody. We’re gonna We’re gonna continue Terra’s announcement Theme of celebration of Easter coming up. I agree. Invite some friends because a lot of people are planning on their first return to church on Easter is what I’m hearing. So make sure you invite your neighborhoods, your network. So I’d like to roll the celebration on into this morning. Um, anyone know what this is? This is a hat. Does anyone have? Does anyone have an idea of what happens? What’s different about our building? What? The floors. You’re right, Brandon. The floors. I’m throwing at you. Ready? Catch we? That’s that’s on me. That’s not me. Are we like to celebrate the end of our restore campaign. We’ve been doing a lot of building projects and we finished the lobby, so yeah, give yourself a hand church. That’s a big thing. Come on, come on. That was a big thing. It’s fun to celebrate, so I think we should another thing, uh, next Sunday, the fourth Sunday of every month for a while. We’re going to try something out. Thanks for Let’s try stuff. We’re gonna do a next step class. Um, if you are interested in who we are, what we are, what we do, how are structured, where we’re going, why we do what we do. The thought is that it would be during church during this exact 10 30 hour. I can be if any of you new people have been coming around that don’t know us yet. We can have a class leveraging Sunday school and nursery that’s rolling. I’ll bring a box of doughnuts and we can go through some material. It’ll be fun. It’ll be upbeat. And I could be fun to get to know some of you guys and just talk about who we are. And I know it’s hard to get to know people and any church experience, especially during a pandemic time. It’s difficult to get to know people, and so that’s our attempt at trying to take that step with you finding out what the next steps might be for you. Um, another thing I think we should and could be celebrating is, uh, you know, we we have large gatherings like this. Uh, this is our churches large gathering version. And Jesus had, you know, I’m not Jesus, but Jesus did this with, like, 5000 people. I’m not Jesus, but you’re not 5000 people. But, you know, we have large gatherings as our rhythms of the church, and we have small group gatherings we have. We have a bunch of community groups where people try to get to know each other better, because I’m not my best in the morning. I’m more a night out, and it’s fun to hang out people and get to know people. And those happen in homes. Those happen at church. Some are masked, some are casual mask and those happen all around the city, different nights of the week. So that’s the second rhythm we have, and then a third rhythm we’re trying to implement. Some groups have done it. Some groups are working towards that of having a smaller group from that small group of 3 to 5 friends that hang out and get to know each other. If you’re not friends, you’re not going to really be transparent to know each other. And so, ideally, you and a few guys that you know from your small group are you in a few ladies, you know from your small group are hanging out and get to know each other better. And the hope is that we just keep pushing discipleship down into the deeper and deeper recesses of our church because this time is great. But small groups are a time that really helped move that needle of helping people take next steps and their faith in those smaller groups of three guys and three girls meeting and praying for each other, holding each other accountable. That’s what life’s take. 234 steps forward. And so it’s exciting. Celebrate what God is doing. It seems like God has, you know, solar church. The There’s a lot of themes in that parable of the Sower, but it seems like the main theme is you cast seed, and y…

  • Pain Brings Potential
morning. Welcome. Good to see you all. I got my notes open here. Yes, we’re good. So I heard a pastor friend described leading a church during Covid as hang up. There we go Group project You ever heard of everyone would ever do a group project growing up in high school or college. They were terrible and I was the worst group Project person always cherry picking other people’s work. So I hate group projects. Got some A’s out of those group projects, but I didn’t do a work and so covid leading a church during covid. Kinda like leading a big group project. And so there’s many people in many different places as we keep moving the team downfield. I just thank you for the freedom to try stuff as a church. One. Leadership blessed. I think we’ve learned from many, but one is every Covid plan you have as a church is subject to change with the whims of covid, and so we we as a church, it’s our hope and our prayer, like all of you, that our country and our society will progress back to more of a norm and praise God. The numbers have been coming down as a nation. That’s celebratory. And so it’s our hope and prayer that in the future, coming weeks and months, we could, you know, lean into making this just a mask. Optional service and the first one is a mass required service. That’s kind of our hope. Hopefully, we can do that in the future, but I’m we are hoping to bring back next Sunday the 21st Sunday school. So that’s a step in the in the direction of returning to life as we know it. And so we’ll be offering a mask Sunday school at 9 a.m. And at 10 30 Sunday school. That reflects this room, if that makes sense. So if you have any thoughts, concerns, questions just grabbed me afterwards. We can talk about it. I think already talk to all your parents. So if your parents have any thoughts concerning the questions, let me know. I’ve already talked. I think almost all your parents in this room. So, um, that’s our hope and prayer. That’s exciting. Um, I let’s pray. Let’s jump right into it this morning. God, thank you for today. Thank you for what we’re looking at today. And Samuel, we love you. We trust you. You’ve been a good god to us. You’ve taken good care of us as individuals and as a collective group. This last year, we just It’s been a different year. It’s been a tough year. It’s been an interesting year. It’s been a brutal year for many people. Lord, I feel like I’ve become an old man this last year. I thank you for what? You’ve leadership lessons you’ve been teaching me. You’ve been teaching all of us. You’ve been drawing us closer to you. Jesus in the wilderness. Lord, I thank you that it seems like things are training in the right direction. I purchased. Really Help us to finish. Well, we love you. I picked you. Just get all you can out of these passages. We’re looking at this morning. Really. Just imprint our souls. Our hearts, our minds just really imprint us as a young church. With the lessons we see in the Scripture today we commit this time to you, Lord, glorify your name with your word in your church. Jesus name we pray. Amen. All right, So 1st and 2nd Samuel, if you’ve done like an eyeball test. There is I proposed to you. There’s more of your Bible that is built around David before David, during David and after David than the four Gospels. You get what I’m saying and if you add on top of that half of the Book of Psalms. David wrote 75 of 150 chapters in The Book of Psalms, David wrote, We know more. I propose about what David is thinking and feeling whatever other people are doing than any other character in the Bible. I mean, today’s passage. Ironically, God lined it up with my personal readings. In the one year Bible was David’s reflections and praise and his concerns about the passage we’re looking at this morning. So it’s …

All right. Good morning. Good morning, guys. Um, we’re gonna be in first. Samuel 21. I really encourage you to flip their or bring your booklet or something. We’re going to try to read a lot. We’re gonna get through 20 chapter 23 today, So I’m excited if you don’t know who I am. My name Zane and my wife and I helped lead the College ministry here, So I’m gonna pray for our time together. Um, if you would pray for me with me, um, it should be good. I’m really, really excited. But just before we get started, I just want to pray and ask God to give us discernment, wisdom, years and hearts to know who he is through his scripture. So let me pray. And my father just thank you for today. Thank you. That we are here. Thank you. That I am here and I have come as I am. And you have? I’m decided, uh, to allow somebody like me to to, uh, to give a message today. God, I’m thankful. I’m astounded by you. I’m in of who you are. Um, and just give me grace. Give us, um, Grace as we look at your word as we attempt to know you more. God, I love you And just help us and be with us Here. Be present with us right now. God is in your name, Uh, that I pray and give all of the glory. Amen. So, um, I’m going to attempt to read every verse. Okay, I just up up front up. Warning. I know a lot of us aren’t readers we don’t like reading. Um, I actually do. I love reading. You can ask my wife. Reading is one of my favorite forms of entertainment. And so I think this story is phenomenal. I’m just gonna spoil her. I I love this, and I’m going to read all of it a little bit, selfishly, because I want to. And so, um, I know that because we’re not readers. Uh, we are movie watchers, YouTube, video hours, uh, series people, and so I really want to. Full disclosure. Everything that happens here is 100% true. It’s uh huh Actually happened. This is actually David’s life. But for our purposes of, like, really trying to get something out of this and see it like, let’s view it as a movie like Let’s get our imagination hats on and let’s, like, read this thing as if it was like some sort of visual movie or play whatever will get you to, like, fall along and see what’s happening. I think this story is so cinematic. I don’t understand why nobody has made a movie about it or a video game TV show. David’s life is crazy, guys. His life is insane and it’s 100% real. And so as we read this, um, just like, just enjoy it. But also it’s so true. And so we’re going to talk about the seriousness of it. But like, this story’s insane. Okay, um, so before we start off our protagonist, right, David, um, we remember he’s been anointed as the next king of Israel. The king of Israel, right as a kid. And then he goes, and he slays this giant Goliath. He literally chops off his head, right? It’s this amazing feat. He trusted God through it all, Um, and and and now all of a sudden, the last episode was a crazy to his crazy turn. Saul went nuts. He started throwing spears at David trying to kill him. He went Absolutely lost it. All right. Saul is is crazy. And David is now on the run. He’s fleeing for his life. We literally just left off. He and his best friend, Jonathan, made this crazy like, um, secret code with bows and arrows. And, uh, they sent a signal to each other. And Jonathan was like, Dude, say, David, David, run like, save yourself. It’s going, you know, everything is hitting the fan. It’s bad. Okay, so get out of here, save yourself. And so David’s running and he’s fleeing for his life. And we’re all watching. And we’re like, What’s going to happen? He’s supposed to be king. All this is supposed to be great. What’s about to happen to David? He’s fleeing for his life. David doesn’t even know if he’s gonna wake up in the morning every single day. I mean, this story is we’re on the edge …

morning. Thank you for coming Church to church. It’s good to see you all. We have three values as a church. We talk about gospel culture, community culture and generosity, culture and the way we define generosity, cultures, your time, talent and treasure. And this? Last week I was, uh I was talking to a financial planner because I’m 36 I’m I’m getting older and there’s things I should be doing greater capacity so that I’m a cheap to free pastor as I get older. That’s my plan to decrease in expenses as an employee of the church. So I was thinking about treasure and money more than normal, talking to a financial planner, and he asked all these questions and did some diagnosis of how retirement will look for me as I get older. And so I was thinking about treasure, and I was thinking about Jesus’ words on treasure. Matthew 6 21. It says this where your treasure is there. Your heart will be also where your treasure is there your heart will be also. I was thinking of treasure from juices definition. It talks about things. You think about things you meditated about things you go to and the you wake up early in the morning, you go to your treasure on your phone, your browser, your app, your phone’s history shows what you treasure. Your your YouTube searches show you what you treasure and my YouTube searches right now. Show me a lot of things about sewage lines and cleaning them out with power jetting. And that’s what my treasure is showing. And also NFL quarterback swapping. If that’s what my YouTube treasure heart is showing me that I had treasure. And if you think to yourself, if you have time, you have half an hour this afternoon. You get a hop on your phone and go to something to entertain yourself to your free time, your mind, your thoughts, your affections, your your mind gravitates towards that. Would you treasure our passes today from over to looking at three chapters, three characters, three chapters, three men that treasure different things differently. Saul is the first one we’re talking about in the Book of Samuel. It’s hard to give a sermon about talking about Saul Saul’s browser. History would show what to do if God is taking your kingdom away from you. How to keep your kingdom when God is opposing you. You know, that would have been Saul’s treasures all really treasured the Kingdom of God. And so as we look through this, I think there’s a lot of 21st century applications that apply to us from the Middle East. Ancient text we’re looking at today that doesn’t impact our lives today. So let’s pray. Let’s invite God to be a part of this time in our service as we look at things we treasure as we try to grow up in the word of God here today. God, I thank you, Lord, that you’re in charge of our lives. Thank you that you have a plan for our lives. Thank you that there’s themes in the Bible that are there for a reason. There’s stories and narratives and plots and narrative preaching, Lord of historical passages of the Bible and how those do apply to our lives. Today I pray you just really convict us. Instruct us, Lord, if there’s lessons in the text that that are meant for us in this room, I ask that you just take those empresses down deep into the recesses of our souls that we as men and women would just be impacted by your word through your scripture. To your church. Lord, I pray you convict us and encourage us in the spirit today. Instruct us in the spirit today. Help us to be taught by our word to help us. To be exhorted To obey your word we commit this time to you in Jesus’ name. Amen. So your treasure is it Bitcoin? Is it retirement? Is it your Airbnb vacation spot? Is it your local sports teams? What do you treasure? Think about that in your mind as we talk. Salt treasure thinks it’s all treasure If you look at his heart wha…
