  • Rat-O-Caster: Recombobulation [1/2]

My first real deal work on an electric guitar! It's my Washburn X-10 Pro "Rat-O-Caster" I bought for learning, both playing a guitar and servicing it.

Pickup and electronics overhaul, fretboard cleaning, fret polishing, machine head replacement... Restoring the run-down instrument to some of its former glory.

Next step: restringing, tuning and scale setting where necessary.

Doing it in a non-professional way (you gotta start somewhere, right?) probably making a lot of mistakes along the way.

  • META #1: How I Do My Channel? Hardware Setup

After countless days of getting the filming setup close to where I would like it to be, it's time to show it. This is the first part where I'm talking about cameras, microphones, USB infrastructure - and all the shenanigans I had to deal with through 1.5 years of running my channel. I'm not talking about the baby steps (as in filming bench action with a smartphone with no real deal mic), the production process that works for me, or any software related stuff. That will be for another episode.

    0:00 Intro

    1:30 Current setup
    1:55 Razer Kiyo Benchcam
3:04 Prototyping Board Sneak Peek and Test Gear Cam
4:25 What Happened to Razer Kiyo Pro? (and cat)

  • Inside the Tascam Portastudio 414

There's almost nothing there! This Tascam Portastudio 414 is as simple as it gets looking at its internals, and will serve its owner well. It weighs 1/3 as much as other one (244) which may be a lot more interesting.

  • Oh Silly Scope! Baby Steps with Tektronix 468

Silly girl got herself a scope! It arrived today, after some messenger service shenanigans. I decided to upgrade my lab, so I bought myself this thing of beauty. Trying to figure out how to use it... haha!

Planning to make a little teardown video, but that's another story.

    0:00 Intro

1:00 You call it a knife?
3:20 Don't Take It Apart - Turn It On!
    4:30 How To Show It?
    5:30 Where's The Switch?
    7:00 Poking Around
    8:52 We've Got Display!
    10:05 We've Got Timebase!
    10:20 Square Wave Calibration Tests
    11:13 Triggered
    14:07 Digital Storage
    16:10 "Oh Silly Scope!"
    16:55 No DMM Attachment Here
    17:31 Afterword

All the time I was testing it with the probe, the problem was with the probe itself. The cable broke from years and years of use... making the thing unstable. The fuzziness on the square wave went away after I put the probe's ground clip on the enclosure. Not a good ground connection on that probe...

  • Antique wall-mount telephone - generator and bell restoration

Again in my old lab, restoring a 1930s German wall mount telephone. Sadly, it lacks a handset... but the generator, bell and hook switch are still there, so I tried to get them to work. Shorting the line terminals allows the phone to ring its own bell!

  • ADHD-01 Advanced Dial-Home Device Project

Doing something creative while channeling my inner Samantha Carter!

The ADHD-01 (Mark 1 Advanced Dial-Home Device) project is an unusual home automation controller using a rotary dial as an input device, and Nixie tubes for displaying the parameters and values. The project is moved from NodeMCU / ESP8266 to Raspberry Pi Pico W with a lot of code still to be done. The hardware as of now is working pretty nice - watch these lovely Nixies glow...

Contrary to what they say, resistance is NOT futile!

    2:18 The Story Behind ADHD
    4:07 Purpose and Pitfalls
