We keep saying that you're joining us in the kitchen: finally we're going to make you a mug of tea. There's some cans in the fridge, too, we won't judge. Just get yourself something, do not under any circumstances take even one pixel of that chocolate cake we're saving, and let's have a natter. The kettle's boiled. Come have a chat about what we'll be seeing, hearing and doing in the next twelve months. Speaking of which, happy new year from MacNN and One More Thing.

Get your coat, it's cold out there. But while regular co-host Malcolm Owen is off working, you and I are going to take a little drive. It's a very British drive so expect a lot of roundabouts – what is it with the UK and roundabouts? – plus some slightly distracted driving, possibly a few near misses, and also, well, not exactly news.

This week, we start off with a bit of a departure ... to a galaxy far, far away ... but don't worry, we don't spoil anything. Then, back in the Apple news world, we discuss the topics of the week, including encryption, Apple Pay, taxes, China, great tech gift ideas, and much more. A great chat to end the podcast year on. Enjoy the show, and happy holidays!

Look, here's the deal. This episode is full to the brim with spoilers for the end of the Doctor Who season as well as The Force Awakens, so if you want to remain unspoiled for either, just don't bother listening right now. It'll still be here when you want to chat. Don't worry, Star Wars fans, only 22 minutes of Doctor Who, with the balance of the hour talking about Star Wars nitty gritty!

Sometimes when you want something new, you just have to take inspiration from wherever you can. Ask Samsung. In this penultimate One More Thing of the year, Malcolm Owen and William Gallagher fess up to the Christmas Thingies of the Week that they would buy for themselves. They're not kidding around, either: one of them has already caved and bought his. It's the most expensive thingie he's bought and this week it was briefly the most embarrassing.

This week, we talked a bit about Mystery Science Theatre 3000's comeback, the new Apple Smart Battery Case, the slew of system updates, how Apple Watch prices have dropped, the newly-announced "Walmart Pay" (um, sure) and how it compares to Apple Pay, our latest Gift Guide for the Mac Switcher, the best apps of 2015, and of course our App of the Week pick.
