This week, we talked a bit about Mystery Science Theatre 3000's comeback, the new Apple Smart Battery Case, the slew of system updates, how Apple Watch prices have dropped, the newly-announced "Walmart Pay" (um, sure) and how it compares to Apple Pay, our latest Gift Guide for the Mac Switcher, the best apps of 2015, and of course our App of the Week pick.

Listen very carefully. Hopefully you won't spot this because William Gallagher and Malcolm Owen are professionals, but there is a moment when Malcolm has to keep talking longer than he intended. It's followed by a moment in which William tries to disguise that he's out of breath. Plus William has strong opinions about the new iPhone 6S Smart Battery Case – so strong that it was nearly his Thingy of the Week but failed. So nearly Thingy of the Week, the decision so close, that though he finally says no, he doesn't have an alternative. Malcolm does. Malcolm has a short one-item wish list Christmas Thingy of the Week

This week, Mike and Charles discuss several of the new rumors that are starting to swirl around, the coming of CarPlay (finally) to actual cars you can buy, Consumer Reports' recommendation of the MacBook line (more reliable, more fun!), the possibility of iOS on the desktop, the holiday buying season and our own Gift Guides, Samsung finally paying up, and more.

While you were eating turkey, holidaying with family or simply not looking, there was news. Malcolm Owen was here and this week fills in William Gallagher on everything he missed. That includes the new Apple holiday advert, the potential new Apple moves with Lightning cables and OLED displays plus Christmas Thingies of the Week.

We've been checking our lists twice, chiefly because of syncing issues, and you know how it is. Christmas expands to fill the space you have and nature abhors a news vacuum so in what continues to be a quiet week, One More Thing decks some halls. Wait, is that Christmas or American Thanksgiving? It's some holiday or other and we're after celebrating all of them because it's a Grade A excuse to discuss some of the finest technology around. Malcolm Owen and William Gallagher both have recommendations for what to buy the people in your life that you can't stand. Ideally you wouldn't buy them anything, but we've all got these commitments and it's as well to get it over with soon.

Charles and Mike wander through the various features MacNN has run this week, ranging from the "Five Reasons to Switch to Windows" and the corresponding "Five Reasons to Switch to Mac" as well as some analysis on the future of OS X-iOS convergence, the latest rumors, the repairability of the Apple Pencil, what's happening at MacUpdate.com and more, plus App of the Week.
