Shellie opened and closed a business during the recession of 2008. Now she takes the lessons that she learned over that time and pays it forward, by sharing them with emerging business owners. As a business development officer, Shellie leverages her position and network to strengthen business owners. Her Spared Change moment reminds us to:
Surround yourself with vetted experts;
Make the hard call even when the outcome is unclear;
Embrace the journey and accept the lossesMost importantly, she reminds us to measure the impact and remember the benefits.
Shellie Berry works as a business development officer for Gateway Bank in Mesa. She’s been there almost four years. Previously, Shellie created her own for-profit business from dream to reality, but sadly, those doors closed because of the Great Recession. Today, as an officer for an award-winning community bank, Shellie builds trusting relationships with small business owners. She helps these businesses grow by patiently offering banking consultation - with a creative and flexible approach to lending. Her burning desire is for small business owners to have the banking experience she wishes she had when she owned her business.
