    About Wendy:

I help service providers stand out by telling their story on websites, emails and social media. When it comes to marketing, the greatest waste is an idea that fails to connect to its audience – not because it wasn’t a good idea but because it wasn’t packaged as a great story.

My goal is to help health and wellness experts stand out with content marketing. I’ve worked in marketing communications for nearly 20 years and experienced firsthand the rapid pace of change in this space. I launched Sparkr Marketing to help you stay ahead in this age of information overload. I’ll help you filter through the countless marketing tactics to find the right ones to reach your target market. Most importantly, I help your business stay true to your story.

  • 3 ways to grow organically on social media

There's a new privacy setting coming to iOS14 users in the U.S. any day now, and anyone running Facebook and Instagram ads is in a tizzy. As soon this takes effect in the U.S., conversion ads that run to your website will be less effective.

This means that organic content will be more important than ever.

Following are three ways to focus on improving your approach to organic content in preparation for this update. Even if you don't run ads, these strategies that don't rely on ads will help you.

    1. Be social! This seems pretty obvious, but you'll need to be social on social media. On Instagram especially, follow and support the people who you want to reach. You can follow them and they'll get a notification that you did. They'll get a notification every time you comment or share their content as well. The same is true on LinkedIn. Generously give back to others, and they will start to do the same to you.
    2. Create consistent content that focuses on what your audience needs. Consistent doesn't have to mean that you are on social media all the time. But staying consistent is essential to making any progress in your social media growth. Three days a week consistently over time is better than every day in spurts.
    3. Focus on video. Video views is an audience that is going to be more important than ever. Videos perform really well on all the social media channels, and they are easy to create once you get over your fear. For your ads, you target people who watch any portion of your video.

  • How to get more social media followers

In this podcast we talk about followers for your private practice social media channels. We all pretend we don't really need them and then judge the effectiveness of our efforts by how many we are collecting. It's a popularity contest that feels like high school.

If you are a local therapist, PT, OT or SLP, the truth is that you can fill your appointments with a small, engaged audience.

How to get more followers if you are a local healthcare provider

Whether you are a local therapist, physician or speech therapist, your goal on social media is the following:

    • Show you're open for business by existing on the channel where your audience is spending time
    • Show the people who find you there what it's like to work with you
    • Nurture your audience so they know, like and trust you
    • Those who actually may become your clients or patients may never even follow or engage with you. But they do see you here.

We also talk about how to attract the right people and how to get more followers if you have bigger goals for your social media content.

  • Healthy habits for social media

In this podcast we talk about how to effectively use social media without letting it take over your life.

Social media can be a total time suck or an absolute goldmine for your healthcare practice or wellness business. And on any given day, it’s most likely a little bit of both. But with some healthy habits and limits for social media, health and wellness providers can get the most out of using it for your business without wasting time and money scrolling on apps.

In this podcast we talk about 3 healthy habits for social media use

With some planning, you can still use social media for your healthcare practice or wellness business in a healthy way.

    1. Turn off notifications. Don’t tell me you let the social media apps ping your or email you every time someone makes a comment. Turn those off!
    2. Log out of social media apps on your computer. Setting that extra step of having to log in to your LinkedIn or Facebook on your computer makes you less likely to check the channels on a whim.
    3. Set a screen time limit on your phone. Locking your apps is key to predetermining how much time per day you or your team member are willing to spend on social media marketing. Sure, you’ll know the screen time code, but each time you use the apps, you’ll have to put it in and indicate if you want 15 minutes, an hour or all day. This puts you back in charge of your phone.

We also go over how to effectively use your time on social media for your business

  • Turn your healthcare team into brand ambassadors

In this podcast I cover how to turn your healthcare team into brand ambassadors.

On this podcast I talk about how to promote your healthcare business on social media by empowering your employees to become ambassadors who spread your message in the local community.

Thanks to Instagram, influencers with a capital "I" are ubiquitous with selling most products these days. For healthcare services, though, influencers are seldomly appropriate. Even featuring patient stories or reviews means obtaining signed HIPAA forms and is only appropriate in certain areas of healthcare such as pediatrics or physical therapy. Most patients prefer privacy.

Employees, on the other hand, are proud to share stories and experiences about a job they love. Those who feel valued are more likely to spread the word about your practice or business if they are asked or have an incentive.

Much of your social media content needs to focus on providing value and serving your audience. But, sometimes, you also want to let your audience know how they can work with you.

In this podcast, I cover ideas for getting your employees to help you create content, share your content and spread your message.

  • How to create engaging social media content

What is engagement on social media and does it really matter?

Do you ever post something to social media you thought people would appreciate and only to find that nobody responds?

In this episode I talk about the discomfort we all can feel when we see people in our industry getting a lot more comments and feedback on social media.

And beyond our bruised egos, does it even matter if we don't get a lot of engagement?

I argue that it is. Engagement is how we get our posts in front of more eyes. It's not that those who engage with us are necessarily the ones who will hire us. But it does allow more people who will hire us to see our content.

    How to get more engagement

    1. Start with your hook--the most important line of your text
    2. Use a interesting photo or video
    3. Use longer text
    4. Give a call to action in a very direct way
    5. Ask you audience questions that will interest them
    6. Use language that your audience uses
    7. Use emojis and chunk content into paragraphs

  • 5 ways marketing can help health and wellness providers finish strong for 2020

If this month has you wondering where your new clients or patients all went, you’re in good company. With the exception of retail, December can be a really slow month for therapists and other health providers. All your regulars have already set their appointment dates for the month. If you accept insurance, appointments are already set among the rush of those patients trying to use up the rest of their flex spending.

New therapy clients and inquiries slow to a trickle this month.

Instead of panicking about the state of your therapy practice, use this month to reflect on this past year in business and plan ahead for 2021.
