children are sponges.
they are sponges to our energy, our words, our habits and our beliefs.
if you don't want your kids to hit the same glass ceiling that you're hitting, listen to this.
Have you ever felt frustrated and angry with your upbringing?
Are you finding yourself doing the same things you dared said you would never do?
Self awareness is crucial to seeing change.
Vulnerability in parenting can either be good or bad depending on the type of relationship that you want to have with your children. But what stops us from being vulnerable? Can you think back on a time when this has ever stopped you from admitting you were wrong and instead use those same efforts on working on making things right?
There's a quote by Pam Leo that says,
"either we spend the time meeting children's emotional needs by filling their cup with love or we spend the time dealing with the behavior caused from their unmet needs. Either way, we spend the time."
this perfectly sums up the lesson and world-view that my parents failed to learn.
As a mental health advocate, I hope that through this personal story you can see that the quality of a Childs life truly depends on the quality of relationship and mentorship that the child has with his parents/caregivers.
and that as a parent myself I understand that this is a BIG pill to swallow.
but if we truly want our children to be happier and live a better life, we have to be willing to listen AND do the work.
Growing up, did you ever promise yourself that you wouldn't follow your parents footsteps only to find yourself struggling to not make the same mistake? If you did, welcome to the Parenting Better club.
