Think about an area that has been a challenge for you in the past: Mother-in-law expectations, doing too much, spending too much money, not spending enough time enjoying your family. Decide that you are going to do one thing differently. You are going to take care of yourself in one specific way and honor that. 

Yes, it’s counter-intuitive, but it’s true… we cannot improve our personal influence without improving how we allow others to influence us. The two go hand in hand; the more we see others as real, ask good questions and really listen, the more they will feel seen and loved and be open to our influence. The Savior modeled this, and we can follow His example and enjoy deeper, more connected relationships as a result. Genuine influence is gentle but effective. It’s how the spirit guides us. It’s how the Savior invites us. But if you’re anything like Jamee and Jody, it doesn’t necessarily come naturally to you.
