I live in the Mile-High City with my wife and dog, where the Rocky Mountain High isn’t always achieved with an herbal substance. When not glued to the computer for work and writing, I relax by enjoying the outdoors; doing yard work, and traveling with my wife in our motorhome wherever the wind takes us. My writing delves into genres with gritty investigators exploring mystery, crime, suspense, and thrills, with involved plots and unexpected twists. Featuring former US Marshal Hunter Divine, a dire, determined man searching for salvation in his broken life. While private eye Jarvis Mann is tough and resourceful, with as many faults as virtues. My characters exhibiting traces of my sense of humor, though I’m not nearly as tough and fearless as they are. Though no evil stands a chance against my written word!

Dr. Patti “Doc” Novotny Taylor is the three-time recipient of the Stephen Shank Teaching Award, recipient of the Excellence Award: Courage to Change, Enrichment, Leadership, & Mentoring LLC, 2017, and is acknowledged in several Who’s Who editions.  She was honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement award in 2018 and again in 2022. The 2022 award will be presented in Who’s Who in America 2022.

Dr. Taylor earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing, a Doctorate in Psychology, and Master’s Degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Creative Writing.  She prides herself on being a lifetime learner.

As a Capella University professor, Doc taught graduate-level counseling and psychology online and week-long, face-to-face residencies.  For nearly twenty years, Doc supervised practicum fieldwork and internships for Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, and Argosy University.

Doc has enjoyed several long-term careers in other fields. She has/had careers as a Registered Nurse, Counselor, Psychologist, School Psychologist, Professor, Lecturer, Public Speaker and Author. She seldom works just one job. Dr. Taylor spent twenty-one years, as a school psychologist, in public schools, helping educators. She particularly enjoyed working with behavior-challenged children. 

Doc and attorney husband, Neal, enjoy traveling & co-writing. They have support from family animals, Siamese Merlin and Mighty-Mini-Mutt, Oso.
