A native of Seattle, WA, Allan earned his undergraduate degree in Acting at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, which was recently declared to have the best college theater program in the country by OnStage. Allan then earned his Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the now-defunct National Theater Conservatory in Denver, CO. Almost immediately after earning membership in Actors Equity Association, he and his wife bought a house and decided to have a family…which brought a temporary (?) end to his stage career. For the past twenty-five years, Allan has been teaching in schools public and private, during which time he earned his second Master’s, in teaching. To keep his creative juices flowing, Allan worked for nine years as a stand-up comedian, which led to stints writing comic dialogue for computer games and sentiments for greeting cards. Through all of this Allan wrote, wrote and wrote some more, beginning with monologues, then plays, then screenplays and finally the books we’re discussing today. John Darling ~ Since May of 1976, John has written and published many short stories, poems, and magazine articles. His lone play, Stage Directions, has been produced in the United States, Canada, and most recently at the Soho Theatre in London, England on October 3, 2012. What book have you gifted the most?

That is easy: The Last Juror by John Grisham which I can get for $2 a copy, often brand new, from a local library volunteer gift store. So far I have given away 27 copies and I still have a few more in my stock.    Why?  Simply because it is the best book I have ever read.  It has so many layers to it, so many stories interwoven, and so many emotions from laughter to tears in it. 

What is the one productivity tool you use every day?

I wish I could say that I write every day like I used to but I don’t, however when I do write it is usually a cathartic event; I have words and ideas that I have been collecting while NOT writing and they just have to come out.

What is the one productivity tool you use every day? Why?

I’m a big fan of the to-do list (no surprise here, being that I’m a Virgo). I also track work on a daily calendar – that way I can remember what I did when and why – at 53 yrs old I can’t always rely on my memory for accurate recall.

What word do you misspell most often?

February. I often cheat and just write “Feb” or “02”

What three things do you do to be a successful writer?

Write it down when the muse hits – the Universe often speaks, you just have to listen. I’ve stepped out of a perfectly fine hot shower on a cold morning just to write down a good story idea that popped into my head during lather-rise-repeat.

Find yourself a good copy editor – they are worth their weight in gold.

Walk, talk, write – not necessarily in that order.

“Girl on the Train” and “Razor Girl”

Several years ago she was involved with and then ran a Star Trek Interactive Writing Group which was successful for a number of years. Yes, she is a trekker and proud of it. A few years back, she received her Master’s Degree in Ancient Civilizations, Native American History and United States History. It was at this time she got involved in role playing on FaceBook, which gave her ample opportunities to grow and hone her writing ability.Taking the leap forward, she decided to try her hand at writing a novel. That novel is entitled Demon’s Kiss. A sequel to Demon’s Kiss, entitled Demon’s Dream is available as is the third and final portion of the Demon Saga Trilogy: Demon’s Web.

She has just published the first book in a new series entitled the Spirit Walkers Saga. The first book in that series is Shifter’s Hope. She lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her three companions, all males… cats. She travels as much as she can to various Author/Reader conventions and loves to meet established fans and make new ones, some of which she considers friends more than fans.
