Hello and welcome back to the Speech Path Pod! This week, I'm excited to bring you what I've titled as the FEES roundtable discussion. In it, I talk with the following guests:

Shari Ferman, MA, CCC-SLP is the owner and chief Endoscopist of Swallow Studies by Shari and is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist practicing in Illinois, Indiana, and other midwestern states. Shari attended Syracuse University for her undergraduate degree and furthered her education at California State University, Los Angeles where she graduated in 2004 with a Master of Art in Speech-Language Pathology. Liz Maxwell MS CCC-SLP has been a speech-language pathologist for 10.5 years primarily working in skilled nursing facilities in the Kankakee county area. Her passion is geriatrics and she loves dysphagia management and improving patient quality of life and safety.

Theresa Cibrian, MS, CCC-SLP is a speech pathologist who has worked in a variety of adult, medical settings throughout her career.

Felicia François (she/they) who is a voice-specialized speech-language pathologist at the USC Voice Center, where she leads the gender-affirming voice care initiative. They are passionate about all things voice and upper airway, but they are particularly passionate about gender-affirming voice care as a queer, nonbinary SLP. She is continuing research on this topic with the hope of providing education to other SLPs, therefore expanding access to this life-saving care for all.

Adriana Ramirez is a speech-language pathologist with Presbyterian Healthcare Services at Rust Medical Center and ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital. She graduated with her master’s degree from New Mexico State University in May 2022. Recently, Adriana joined the University of New Mexico’s Swallow Disorders Research Lab as a volunteer.

Aaron Padilla is an acute care speech pathologist with Presbyterian Healthcare Services at Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho New Mexico. He is a board certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders and enjoys bridging the gap between the research lab and clinical world through implementation science. Aaron feels it is a tremendous privilege to be a clinician researcher by advancing  the science of swallowing and its disorders all the while providing  clinical care. He has been a member of the Swallow Disorders Research Lab under the direction of Phyllis Palmer, at the University of New Mexico since 2012.  His current research interests include host considerations  and risk mitigation.

Dr. Britany Baker is a general dentist from Eastern Kentucky passionate about making oral health a priority for everyone. Every person and every mouth is different. Dr. Baker wants the world to know that dentists know so much more than teeth. The mouth is connected to the entire body, dentists are trained to identify oral manifestations of systemic diseases. Most people see their dentist more often than they see their medical provider, so it is important for dentists to be able to recognize when something is awry.
