If you've ever mounted a solo seat on a motorcycle with those cool hairpin springs and experienced a ride like a buckboard, or if you're thinking about using hairpin springs on that new build, then you'll want to hear what Bruce learned. These springs will work just fine with the correct installation.
Bruce is working hard to complete the Yamaha XS650 chopper build for the Bad Livin' Roadshow in July. There's lots of decisions to make about options and styling. Bruce is reaching out for your opinion and experience ... what do you think?
Any advice you can offer based on experience will be most appreciated. Even if you don't have experience, your opinion is valued and again is much appreciated.
The current government in Alberta, the United Conservative Party (UCP) is proposing changes to auto insurance in the province. These changes should be very concerning for all vehicle owners. Costs are going up, really going up, while your care and compensation as a result of an accident caused by someone else is going to be limited. As the most vulnerable vehicles and operators on the roads, motorcycle riders are most at risk of the negative impacts of these proposed changes.
The proposed "no fault" scheme eliminates your right to sue for damages from an at fault driver and their insurance company. Your access to care and financial compensation is determined by the government and agreed to by the insurance companies. Only in the case of conviction of a criminal offence do you have the opportunity to sue the at fault driver.
And just to kick things off, the UCP has raised the cap on insurance rate increases for the very best drivers to 7.5% in 2025 and again in 2026. In the province with the highest insurance premiums in the country, when inflation has been an issue for all Albertans, the UCP jumped on side with the big insurance companies to improve their profits.
Looking at other provinces who moved to a no fault system, it is motorcycle owners who experienced the greatest increases in insurance costs. How about a whopping 350% in Manitoba! It would stand to reason that we can expect motorcycles insurance premiums rise just as they have in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Motorcycle owners must raise their voices for the government to hear the message this is simply not acceptable in the province of Alberta. We need a system that lowers insurance cost, holds bad drivers responsible for their decisions, and allows drivers and riders the opportunity to seek compensation for damages inflicted on them by someone else.
Contact your MLA. Let them know this is not acceptable. Talk with fellow riders so everyone knows what the government is doing. Work with motorcycle groups, clubs, societies, and not for profits to present a united voice on this issue. These reforms are only proposed at this point. Let's do all we can to make sure they don't become permanent.
Bruce and Sean get down to it and talk about Sean's business, the products SNS Customs manufactures, and what drives Sean to build exceptional custom motorcycle parts. It's not an easy business to be successful at in Canada, especially on the east coast. In spite of a relatively small population for the huge land mass that is Canada, Sean is establishing a reputation and a name in a much larger custom motorcycle community outside of Canada. Quality control is job one for Sean. Nothing leaves SNS Customs that doesn't have Sean's stamp of approval. Sean machines every part of his products with just a few exceptions which he personally sources from trusted suppliers.
Sean's Non-Stock Customs builds hardtail kits for Yamaha XS650s and Harley-Davidson Sportsters coming complete with axle and adjusters. The XS650 kit is available in two versions. One has the stock 20 mm axle that came with the XS650. The other has a 3/4" axle allowing for the use of Harley-Davidson style wheels which allow for a much greater selection of wheels, and brakes. The only challenge with the Harley compatible hubs is the sprocket is too large for an XS650. Sean has the answer for that. SNS Customs manufactures a sprocket with the correct tooth count for a Yamaha and the correct bolt pattern for the Harley-Davidson hub. This custom sprocket is included with the 3/4" axle XS650 hardtail kit.
Sean also builds a Softail version of a Sportster. His respect for the Sportster as a platform for custom bikes has motivated him to design some very cool parts for the dependable and affordable Harley-Davidson Sportster.
Custom frames, springer front ends, fenders, oil tanks and other parts are all available for SNS Customs Ltd. Check out SNS Customs on Instagram, @snscustomsltd or go to his website to shop, @.

Sean's Non-Stock Customs Ltd produces hand-crafted motorcycles and parts just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. Sean is the owner/operator and an exceptional welder, fabricator, machinist and manufacturer. You won't meet many people more passionate about motorcycles than Sean. He is innovative with a commitment to producing quality products. But, there's a lot more to Sean than just being a talented craftsman. He is also totally devoted to his family. He provides his gal and their two kids with a beautiful home and all the things they need. Sean's kids are very fortunate to have a dad who is there for them all the time and wants to be a part of their lives. He is fully supportive of their activities, goals and dreams. Sean is one of those rare people who is able to balance family, work, friends, passion, and activities while making it look easy. I'm honoured he made time in his busy schedule for me.
We hope you'll come back in a couple of weeks for Part 2 when we learn more about Sean's business, SNS Customs. We'll look at some of the products Sean makes including the fantastic Yamaha XS650 hardtail he made for the build currently underway.
Follow @snscustomsltd on Instagram, @snscustomsltd7331 on YouTube or visit the website @. And, for you builders in the US, your dollar goes a long way in Canada these days. Give Sean a shout to see just how good the deals are from a Canadian manufacturer.
The Wall of Death is one of the most entertaining motorcycle attractions you'll ever see. In the case of the Ives Brothers Wall of Death there is a Canadian connection that makes the show extra special for Canadian motorcycle enthusiasts.
Kyle and Cody Ives grew up in the circus industry learning how to ride and do motorcycle stunts a very young age. The brothers have had the opportunity to perform in the steel ball, wheelie and stunt on Harleys, and do some racing. They've settled on the Wall of Death was their preferred show for a number of reasons including how it fits with family life, costs of the operation, and the show history. Attending more than 30 motorcycle events and shows each year with maintenance and enhancements in the off season Cody and Kyle are certainly putting in the effort to keep their venture successful.
If you get the chance, this is a must see show.

Why would anyone open a custom motorcycle parts and accessories store in the small town of Stratford, Ontario? Located in Perth County, Stratford is the home of the Stratford Festival featuring Shakespeare productions, and very much a destination for theatre going tourists from around the world. This is hardly the place I expected to find a wonderful motorcycle shop catering to all kind of enthusiasts and all varieties of motorcycles ... but there it is. I don't think anyone would deny there's a discernible bias toward old school choppers, bobbers, cafe racers and other similar genres. That bias does not prevent Perth County Moto from stocking accessories and apparel for cruisers, dual sports, and other styles.
The owners of this most unlikely store are a humble, young couple who absolutely love motorcycles and the community of enthusiasts they not only serve, but socialize and associate with. Jeff and Lindz seem to be building their business on hospitality. Perth County Moto has a great customer lounge area with a coffee bar and ice cream shop. There's always some kind of event going on at PCM whether is the Wednesday bike night, movie night, Moto GP races on the TV, swap meet, annual anniversary party, or other event Jeff has come up with. These folks just want to be with their community.
Maybe Jeff and Lindz are brilliant and have figured out how to be successful by starting a business with the least likelihood of success. Maybe they just didn't hear everyone who tried to tell them what a bad idea this was. Regardless, I'm glad they stepped up against the odds, tried something different, and have created one of the coolest motorcycle destination shops in Canada. Great job you two!

We're back with Kirt at Dirty Kustomz to take a look at his most recent build, a beautiful Knucklehead chopper Kirt has named Purple Reign. Kirt's artistic side has really come through on this incredible build based on a Santee nostalgia Softail frame with a 46 Knucklehead EL engine and a whole bunch of twisty, swirly, pieces that are both ornamental and functional. The paint on this build is truly exceptional. The Purple flake dances with all the chrome in such a way it's tough to tell who's leading.
Take a look, hit the like button, and leave Kirt a comment on his project.
