2024 was the first year for the Bad Livin' Roadshow. When Freedom wrapped up in 2022 long time supporter of the show, Lee Sipes knew he wanted to promote a new show for the custom motorcycle community. Being well connected in the industry through his work on a variety of events and as a contributor for a magazine Sipes was passionate, energized and relentless in the pursuit of hosting the Bad Livin' Roadshow. His efforts resulted in one of the most successful motorcycle shows in Canada. The future is bright for the Bad Livin' Roadshow.

Frontier Ghost Town is a well know venue in western Ontario. Frontier Ghost Town has been selected for motion picture production, corporate events and celebrations such as weddings. The location is absolutely perfect for an old school motorcycle show. Being BLR spans three days, the campground at Frontier Ghost Town is perfect. There's lots of room and staying on site means no one has to ride after a hot day in the sun or partaking in a couple cold beverages while enjoying the motorcycles or the live music entertainment.

The 2025 Bad Livin' Roadshow is scheduled for July 18 to 20 at Frontier Ghost Town. Speed & Kolor will be there ... you should be too.

In all honesty, I don't have a handle on YouTube yet. The original version of this episode fell flat and I really don't understand why. After trying to make some adjustments to the YouTube parameters I decided to make some wholesale changes and try it again.

I really wanted to offer some new material with this episode. To that end I recorded a new introduction with a product and some fresh ideas (hopefully they're fresh) for using this product as it pertains to a foot clutch chopper. Every motorcycle community should have a supporter like Steve Grover and his company, Grover Law Firm. Whether it's coffee mugs, chocolate or other consideration Steve always shows his appreciation for my time ... a truly exceptional gesture. Steve also has a wonderful sense of humour, sometimes quirky, but always real.

Are metric choppers really choppers? Of course they are. It's this kind of diversity and inclusion we need to embrace to ensure a future for the culture of choppers. There are many reasons why someone may not be able or willing to enter the chopper scene with a Harley or Triumph, perhaps not even an XS650. If there is acceptance of, and a place for these builders and riders to enjoy their machines then the culture and the market will continue to thrive. This is exactly the opportunity the Bad Livin' Roadshow presents for the young builders introduced in this episode to enjoy their Hondas, Yamahas, other brands and other models.

Bruce and Mac take a look at Mac's 1994 Harley-Davidson Sportster. Mac's goal is to have a clean, narrow, Frisco style lane splitter. This bike needs to carve those corners in the mountains for Mac to get the enjoyment he seeks out of his bike. This is a very different kid of cornering and manoeuvring than one would experience on a sport motorcycle. The riding position is completely different with an aft leaning position rather than forward leaning, aerodynamic rider position of a sport bike. The chopper won't have the performance of a sport bike. The experience will be slower, the throttle response far less aggressive. The cornering experience will be somewhat like that of a long board as opposed to a short board for tricks,  the long board carves but not as tightly or quickly as the short board. Then there's the idea of using a foot clutch, shifting with your left hand with a lever under your left butt cheek which is most certainly completely foreign to any sport bike enthusiast.

Mac's bike is a wonderful example of a work in progress. This motorcycle is a classic functional, inspired, unfinished project which brings great joy, pride and satisfaction to the owner/builder. A project like this one brings a broader experience than just buying a factory cruiser.

How good must that feel? You decide to build a chopper, you buckle down and get it done in short order. Then you submit your entry for the Ill-Fated Kustoms' Kickstart Show and you get accepted. An achievement all on its own. You're finishing the bike as you load your build in the truck to travel hundreds of miles through the Rocky Mountains to Calgary where the show is on at The Pioneer, a beautiful heritage building right is the heart of the city. Over the weekend your chopper attracts a lot of attention. Sunday afternoon the awards are presented and you learn the other builders in the show have voted your build as the 2nd place Builders Choice winner. This is especially rewarding because these are your peers. These folks know what it takes to do what you've done. They've done it too.

This was Zac Lumsden's experience with his friend and co-builder Josh Vlaming. This is what Jenn and Kenny at Ill-Fated Kustoms envisioned for the Kickstart Show ... grassroots builders working in their garages to build a motorcycle that expresses their style, creativity, and passion for motorcycles. This is success, satisfaction, recognition and community.

Calgary Harley-Davidson and CHD Customs knock this one out of the park with this 2023 Street Bob with 114 M8 and an old school springer front end. Flat Track Racing is growing in Alberta. As a matter of fact, it seems to be gaining popularity throughout the United States and Canada. While much of the popularity is largely with a more mature group of competitors the younger crowd is coming along. Flat track racing takes place in arenas and on dirt tracks typically used for horse racing as well. This eliminates the expense of sole purpose facilities. In terms of the race machine, many flat track race classes are quite reasonable to get in to without the need to invest in a lot of support equipment.

In this episode we visit with a couple of flat track racers who are continuing to be competitive in spite of an accumulation of years. These racers use their years of experience to overcome the effects of aging. You could say they're racing smarter not harder.
