There's something about the turning of seasons, especially the fading of summer into fall, that reminds me of Psalm 90:12 when Moses prayed, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Maybe it's the leaves showing their final act of glory before they let go, leaving behind bare branches, cold and dormant, or even seeing the skeletons pop up in neighborhood yards, jesting about death the deaf, but calling to the wise Momento Mori - remember you will die so lay down personal glory and serve the One true God. The shorter days slip quickly into evening just like how time to slips quickly into the future. It's not a dour season, but a gracious marker to number our days knowing we are but a vapor. Live fully but live faithfully. God is our hope and our glory.
