This episode of STTOT: "Unflipping FLPS" does a deep dive into building a faculty-led program (FLP) from the ground up. Starting with a site-visit sponsored by a provider organization, AIFS Abroad. The site-visit will help us to understand the relationship between working with a provider and building a successful faculty-led program. This episode is all about transparency. We will uncover what services a provider offers and why many university study abroad offices prefer working with them to design FLPs. Joining us are our delightful guests from AIFS: Kory Saunders (Director of Inclusion Initiatives), Michelle Walters (Regional Vice President, University Relations), and Paula Messina (Regional Director, University Relations). Sabrina and Shawn spoke with a former USA study abroad alumna Ms. Andie Gorowsky who talked about how she got her money to study abroad and shared some insight for the budget traveler. Another USA student Ms. Tiffany Pogue shared with us how she received a nationally competitive scholarship-- the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship -- to support her travel abroad. Dr. Bri Ard, USA’s Executive Director of Global Engagement, also joined us and shared tips about where students should look for money to fund their travel experiences. In this episode, Shawn and Sabrina were joined by our very own Ms. Jan-Dominique Santos, Education Abroad Advisor, and Mr. Zach Thomas, International Student Recruiter. In this Episode, Nick and Shawn, Spill the Tea on how to get money to study abroad and give a little $cholarship 101! They share a scholarship secret available to all University of South Alabama students and interview two guests who have received nationally competitive scholarships the Fulbright and the Gilman.  Dr. Bri Ard joins the show currently in Romania fulfilling a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship and Rebecca Culberson, a recent University of South Alabama Alumna, talks about her virtual internship experience with an organization based in Morocco as a Gilman recipient. 

Additionally, listeners will hear from University of South Alabama faculty and staff who provide application support for these scholarships. OIE's own Education Abroad Adviser, Ms. Jan Santos advises students on the Gilman and successfully guided nearly a dozen students receive this award. Dr. Marsha Hamilton, Associate Professor in History, advises students on a range of nationally competitive scholarships including the Fulbright, Truman, Udall, and Rhodes. Angela Jordan, Assistant Director of research development primarily serves faculty preparing proposals for external funding and she has worked on proposals funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Department of Education, and the Fulbright Program, among others.
