When the sport of Muay Thai is mentioned there isn't much the Parr family haven't accomplished. 10x Male World Champion winner John Wayne Parr, Flyweight Women’s Champion Angie Parr and young up-and-comer Jazzy lead the family in the ring and at their renowned Gold Coast fighting gym, Boonchu.

Angie, ex-Muay Thai champion and daughter Jazzy join Damo in the Spin on Sport studio and let us take a peek into their world of training, winning and growing through loss. 

Chasing her father’s legacy of 10x world titles is Jazzy Parr, the 17-year-old is gaining recognition for her fighting style & her down to earth attitude. Entering the ring for her first fight at just 8 years old, Jazzy has grown up around the sport, she chats about her mantra, her role models and goals for herself and the sport.

The teenager has trained in Thailand and Australia and has already started her international career with a handful of titles under her belt and she is not stopping anytime soon. Jazzy opens up about her choices to train in Muay Thai, the decisions that led her to where she is today and how her passion for the sport has developed into an encompassing lifestyle. 

With an exciting career in front of her, and a world-class corner in support - she is one to watch!

Graham Eadie, footy legend and household name joins Damo in the studio this week. 

You might remember him better as ‘Wombat’, Manly Warringah’s lead point scorer and Australian team representative. One of the greats who will forever go down in history as one of the most dynamic fullbacks in the game. 

Described as a ‘greenhorn kid’ from WoyWoy, Wombat joined the Seagulls in 1971. He showed he had the guts and the talent to make it. As he surpassed expectations in the lower grades he was quickly bought in as fullback in the premier team in 72’. 

Wombat was named lead point scorer in 74’, 75’ and 76’, helping the Seagulls take home 4 grand final victories between 1972 and 78. His continuously impressive performance on the field saw him be picked for the International Test team and World Cup Series in the ’70s and be named apart of the inaugural Blues team for the NSW State of Origin side in 1980. 

In 83’ Wombat received the Dally M medal for fullback of the year and hung up the footy boots. But after a few years off the field, he made a remarkable comeback in 87’ and packed up the family to play in the English league with Halifax, receiving the Man of the Match in the Challenge Cup final. 

The decorated veteran of the game returned home to Aussie soil and was named among the 100 greatest players to walk onto the NRL field. An honour hard to exceed until he was inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame in 2008.

Millie Boyle is a rising star in the Rugby world. This dual-coder shot onto the scene and made her professional debut for Rugby Union's Brumbies at just 18. A year later she represented Australia for the Wallaroos, making her the youngest player ever selected at a national level. Then in 2019, she made the leap to League, representing NSW in the Women’s State of Origin and donning her new Brisbane Broncos jersey. 

Rugby runs in the family for Boyle, with father David and uncle Jason Croker both Canberra Raiders greats. Boyle grew up playing league following the side-steps of her older brother Morgan, now Manly Sea Eagles forward. 
Moving into high school Boyle transitioned to Union with the help of her PE teacher who saw her potential, quickly becoming her one of mentors and biggest supporters.  

Fast forward a few years and this young gun from Cobargo impressed selectors and spectators alike. Representing Australia for the Wallaroos and on the 7’s field, she then smoothly transitioned to League, dominating the middle for the Broncos and the NSW stateside. 

Boyle is a strong advocate for cross-code athletes, especially for young women. She believes the chance to excel in different codes provides opportunity for the expansion of women’s sport at a professional and a grassroots level.

Women’s AFL in Queensland is growing at an impressive rate, and it’s largely thanks to the dedication of people like Brisbane Lions AFLW skipper, Emma Zielke. She joins Damo in the studio this week to chat about the development of the women’s game, the platform that the sport has provided as well as the steps it has to take to continue growing.  

Having formed the inaugural Coorparoo Women’s team in 2013, ‘Zielks’ as she’s affectionately known, has been a cult figure in the women’s game. Whether it’s her ongoing support and mentoring of girls learning the game, or her continued commitment in being an active voice in the promotion and growth of the AFLW and women’s football, Emma has paved a way for women nationally to strive for their sporting dreams.  

Zielke speaks on the importance of perseverance in overcoming injuries, the steps the AFL need to take to help the women’s competition reach greater heights and all her successes along the way.

Newcastle Knights fans know Josh Perry for his hardness and unrelenting competitiveness.
