Spinning the Reel

It's a back and forth week on Spinning the Reel with a bit too much Clint Eastwood for Evan and a bit too much French New Wave for Cody. The boys start by talking about Clint Eastwood and the dual hyphenate's new film Cry Macho. If that wasn't enough, we round things out with a modified STR Draft: Eastwood edition. Finally, friend of the pod Lama is back for week 3 of the Decades Project with her 1960s pick: Pierrot Le Fou. Check it out!

The Decades Project rolls on with Cody's pick: The Graduate. This week's discussion is a bit less contentious but luckily the boys have plenty to argue about when it comes to Paul Schrader's The Card Counter. Keeping with the card counting theme Cody challenges Evan to a game of cinematic blackjack, a game not without its own controversy. Enjoy!

Things get a bit heated on this week's episode as the boys begin the 1960s Decades Project! First up though is our review of the newest film in the MCU: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings! After a spirited debate over CGI dragons, Evan and Cody recommend some TV shows they've been checking out. Finally it's rant time... for Cody. The Decades Project starts off swinging with Evan's controversial pick: Cleo from 5 to 7.

If that sounds too scary for you, fear not, Cody and Evan are also tackling the truly awful world of Netflix original teen comedies. First Cody gets quizzed in another round of Netflix Reel or Fake (let us know how you did in a review) and then the boys talk about the unique horrors of He's All That. Check it out!

The boys are at odds today across every segment. First Evan and Cody have wildly different takes on Ryan Reynolds, his comedic niche and his new film Free Guy. After debating the humanity of AI we talk about why this year has been so light on truly great films and hold out hope for some late year gems. In the final segment the boys are at it again debating the merits of theatrical only releases and the ScarJo/Disney lawsuit. Enjoy!
