Notes on We Need Faith

Faith

1. Faith is a  theological Virtue that deals directly with God
2. Other virtues deal with objects or things.ie: justice
3. We must ask for faith.

Types of Faith

1. Dead Faith
   1. We don't have sanctifying grace
   2. Mortal Sin
2. Living Faith
   1. We have sanctifying grace
   2. Living a sacramental life: Mass, confession are key to keep our faith living in us
3.  We need to practice the Virtue of Faith
   1. We ask God for more faith when we are struggling with something like sickness, broken relationships, doubt, temptations
   2. Faith comes by hearing the Truth
   3. Your active faith touches Divine Truth
   4. We need to know our faith to grow our relationship with God
   5. Practice our Active Virtue of Faith (prayer, receving eucharist with faith, go to mass Sunday, pray as a mother, father, sister, brother,

Evangelization Challenge

Write your personal testimony of faith, try and make it impactful and brief 1-3 minutes.  Share your testimony with a friend.  The format should include  1. Life before relationship with God, 2. What has Jesus done in your life. 3. Why the life in the Catholic Church is important to you.

Be willing to share with people you know and try with a person at work, school or people you interact with. Pray and ask the Lord to provide opportunities for you to share your story.

Sometimes we worry more than we pray.

Deacon Angelo Giambrone was ordained a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Orange in 2015.  He is assigned to St. Vincent de Paul Church in Huntington Beach.  He and wife Cindy have supported several ministries in the parish, including bringing communion to the sick and homebound and as chairs of the annual September-fest. What will we learn about in this session?

Reflection on The Creeds of The Catholic Faith

1.  The Apostles Creed
   1. It came from the Apostles
   2. It is the symbol of our faith
   3. Contains in simple terms, the beliefs of our faith
2. The Nicene Creed
   1. How did the Nicene Creed Come about
   2. How does it differ from the Apostles Creed
   3. The battle against heresies
   4. Consubstantial combated the heresy of Arius

Evangelization Challenge

Read the Apostles Creed an/or Nicene Creed and reflect and internalize its/their meaning.  In some way share the Apostles Creed with someone who doesn't know the Christian faith, that you have had challenges with trying to share your faith with.  It could also be a family member who has left the Catholic Church or any denomination. It may help someone decide if they believe what the Apostles Creed says.  It may help clear up an misconceptions someone may have about the Catholic Faith.

Scriptures that support the Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty (Isaiah 44:6; 45:5), Creator of heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3; Acts 14:15). I believe in Jesus Christ (Luke 2:11; John 20:28), His only Son (John 3:16), our Lord (John 20:28), He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35), and born of the Virgin Mary (Luke 1:27). He suffered under Pontius Pilate (Luke 23:23-25), was crucified (John 19:20; Acts 4:10), died (1 Corinthians 15:3), and was buried (1 Corinthians 15:4). He descended to the dead (1 Peter 3:18; Luke 23:43). On the third day He rose again (1 Corinthians 15:4, Matthew 28:1, 5-10). He ascended into heaven (Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51, Acts 1:11), and is seated at the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19; Hebrews 1:3). He will come again to judge the living and the dead (2 Timothy 4:1; John 5:22). I believe in the Holy Spirit (John 15:26; 16:7-8, 13-14; Acts 13:2), the holy universal Church (Galatians 3:26-29), the communion of saints (Revelation 19:14; Hebrews 10:25), the forgiveness of sins (Luke 7:48), the resurrection of the body (1 Thessalonians 4:16; John 6:39), and the life everlasting (John 10:28; 17:2-3). Amen.

Nicene Creed and the Scriptures

1. Jesus is as equally divine and eternal as the Father, not created by the Father.
