This week, NeS pretends to be a serious film critic and pitches his theory that a critically overlooked expressions movement dominated the Italian horror scene of the 1970s and 80s. It's the New Italian Expressionist movement. And by new, he means 40-50 years old. Beware tangents about surrealism, German silent film, and NATO's anti-communist spy games in post-war Europe. This is gonna be a weird one.

If you needed to explain the United States to a space alien, how would you do it? For the Super Splat Bros, they'd just sit them down with a copy of 1989's The 'Burbs. Joe Dante spent a lot of his career exploring his preoccupation with the American suburbs, and this is the picture where he most gets to dig into the deep-seated dementia festering in the skulls of angry lawnmower dads everywhere.
And as is their custom, they also find the time to ramble about Mortal Kombat, Burger King toy promotions from the 90s, and The Munsters.

Mortal Kombat 2k21 opened last weekend to a strong showing, outclassing the weekend hauls of other recent tentpole films like Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984. Seizing any opportunity to talk some Mortal Kombat, join NeS and David as they reminisce on all three live-action Mortal Kombat films from 1995 to now.
ANd also NeS spends a good chunk of time annoying David with the convoluted lore of the MK franchise.

It's East versus West, Lizard versus Monkey, Rubber Suit versus Stop-Motion in this, the most anticipated movie of 2021. After waiting a couple of weeks to give everyone a chance to see it, the Splat Lads return to give their impressions of Godzilla VS Kong, plus some thoughts on the past and future of Kaiju films. If you still haven't seen it, fair warning that here there be spoilers.

If that deranged line of thought appeals to you, then Me, You, Madness is the movie for you. Look, if you've heard about the movie at all you already know it's bad. But while discussing exactly how it fails, the Splat Brothers do find some unsettling truths that auteur Louise Linton can tell us about America. Though she probably didn't intend the movie to read quite the way that it does.

And then in the latter half, the Splat Brothers embark on a new regular series: The Conquest of Goo, horror seen through a left-looking lense.
