Dickinson County is one spot in Iowa seeing a surge of COVID-19. The popular vacation area saw just seven cases before the Memorial Day Weekend. Just four weeks later, there were more than 200 people infected. Information from the state coronavirus website on Tuesday showed 211 positive cases and two deaths. The Sioux City Police Department recently expanded services to partner with mental health producers and other organization to better respond to people with mental health issues. Two more people have died over a 24-hour period in the state of Iowa due to complications of COVID-19 for a total of 688 deaths. More than half were residents of long-term care facilities. There are five additional cases in Woodbury County out of 121 new tests and 42 deaths. There are now 3,077 confirmed cases in Woodbury County and 1,757 in Dakota County with four new confirmed cases and 34 deaths. Sioux City’s two hospitals reported a small uptick in patients being treated for COVID-19.

This fall, Sioux City public school students could be attending class in-person, use a hybrid model or learn online. That was the decision made at the meeting of the Sioux City Community School Board last night. After a lengthy presentation, the board approved a “Return to Learn” plan for this fall. Concerns about the spread of COVID-19 closed schools in mid-March and they never reopened. The spread of the coronavirus would determine the level of in-person schooling. One more death was reported in the Sioux City metro area on Monday due to COVID-19. The Dakota County Health Department isn’t releasing information about the person’s age or gender. There have been a total of 34 deaths and 1,753 positive cases. There were no new cases in Dakota County. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported three additional deaths in 24 hours due to COVID-19 for a statewide total of 681 people and almost 400 additional cases. The current total is almost 25,300 positive cases. There were almost one dozen new cases of COVID-19 reported in Woodbury and Dakota counties on Friday for a total of 3,052 in Woodbury County and 1,751 in Dakota County. Iowa Governor says the state is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and now it’s time to focus on the economic future. She held her final televised news conference on Thursday. The Winnebago Public Health Department reported on Thursday two people have died due to COVID-19 for a total of three deaths on the Winnebago Reservation. Sixty-six have tested positive with 50 recovered from the disease. There are two more deaths in the Sioux City metro area. One in Dakota County, and an older woman between the ages of 61 and 80 in Woodbury County. Forty-two people have died in Woodbury County and 33 in Dakota County for a total of 75. SC DACA Decision 1 061920 The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the Trump administration may not immediately go ahead with plans to end a program protecting young immigrants known as Dreamers from deportation. There are about 700 hundred-thousand DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals residents in the United States.
