Not surprising, since I've had a running theory about Hannah this entire time, but this was so much more bonkers an explanation than I was really prepared for despite me joking about it. I mean, even outside of the big reveal, it's more about the way the storytelling unfolds and how visually beautiful and unsettling it all is. I really really was glued to the screen.

I really thought we would get another book or two of Nita's mom being around before we had to cope with her loss, and instead we start this one with her mother already apparently dead and buried, with the funeral already done with and life already starting to move on. This one hurts.
Meanwhile, Kit is being sent on a mission of his own to help someone who is on an Ordeal that they don't seem fully equipped to handle on their own, and Kit doesn't know if he's equipped for it either.

Wow, so there's only 2 left after this and I'm frankly not sure whether or not the season is going to wrap up on this murder. It doesn't feel to me like we're closing in or anything, and I'm not sure if I want them to solve it, or if the mystery is the fun part....and even if it IS the fun part, you can only carry things so far without giving us SOME of the answers. Right? So what I'm saying is that I don't know what I want.
This episode is where we deal with the fallout of Jack's death and we watch how everyone behaves at the funeral reception. There's a lot going on here and I'm not sure what to make of some of it, but there is one thing that stands out, and that's the fact that Tommy gets caught trying to fuck up the laptop, and is given the skateboard. What??? Why would Susan do that?

I talk for a while in this one about the pluses and minuses of letting your characters grow when so much of the comedy is reliant on them all being giant messes. There are any number of ways you can handle that in a script, but I'm not totally sure that I'm loving watching some of these arcs as much anymore, and I feel bad about that.
That said, I really did like this episode because it's Rebecca establishing boundaries in a way that feels so important, despite the fact that her mother isn't SUPER receptive. Also, the whole thing with Josh causes me to RANT. So get ready for that.

So we finally find out who the dude with the glasses is that Dani seems haunted by, and I for one feel super bad for her. I just hate that she's finally able to tell the truth about what she wants, and is immediately punished for it. Really it's no wonder at all that she's haunted.
Meanwhile, we're dealing with the whole issue with Owen's mother, the relationship with Jaime, and of course the appearance yet again of Pete Quinn outside the windows. Miles has another oddly adult moment when he demands a drink, but this is followed later on by apparent concern from both him and Clara for Dani's safety when they protect her from the Lady In The Lake.
I really don't know what to make of this!

First of all, I want to thank Bert for commissioning the finale of Dark so that I was able to avoid further confusion and watch it quickly following the penultimate episode so that I wasn't too too lost.
That said, I am so angry throughout this episode that confusion turned out to be, in retrospect, something I needn't have worried about. This will go down in my mental Hall Of Shame as one of the most disappointing finales I've ever seen. There are so many plot points that are simply dropped and never brought up again! I name my issues with the episode itself on the podcast, but to list some things that I thought would be meaningful and seemed to not be:
Adam's cult. Who were they and where did they go? There was a whole thing in the first season with a giant back tattoo and a cult-like following of strangers, but absolutely nothing comes of that. It seems like we've retconned that all his followers were actually members of the Knot. Really? So where's he getting his funding and support from if everyone here is from a different time? Why did anyone listen to him, and why did they stop?
Claussen. Wow I guess he was just...fucking NOTHING. He was only the guy who gets the barrels open. Lame.
Aleksander. So apparently him being a murderer on the run just...didn't matter. I really can't see any way that it served the plot. I can't think of any events that stemmed from Hannah blackmailing him, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Why did we spend so much time on this?
WHY DOES ADAM THINK KILLING THE ORIGIN WILL FIX THINGS I DO NOT GET IT
Are we totally confident that nothing bad enough will happen in the future to cause Tannhaus to build this machine again anyway?

I'm so into this show, y'all. This is turning out to be a story about how a murder rips apart a family and a community just as much as it's a story about catching a murderer. We get to see the ripple effects of this investigation hit Jack Marshall as squarely as if he were the intended target, when in the end it really looks like he had nothing to do with any of this bullshit in ANY WAY. Poor Jack. You were a creep, but I don't know whether you deserved this.

This episode fills in a lot of the story regarding Becca and Pete's relationship, and I found this very effective. I don't know who was in charge of the majority of Pete's dialogue and directing, but I think this show did a better job depicting the gradual escalation of an abusive relationship than most others I've seen. Because HOOBOY can I understand Rebecca's attraction to Peter, and often that's the missing link for me in stories like this; I can't understand what she saw in the guy in the first place.
NOT A PROBLEM HERE! Just saying.

I haven't got a real theory about the connection, but I assume they're connected since it seems like the Coach's murder storyline is going to span multiple episodes.
I really am curious at this point, and I hope that my interest in that will eclipse my boredom about Logan. LOL.
