  • Iron Druid- Episode 4, Chapters 16-20
Thank you so much to anonymous for commissioning this next episode of Hounded! If you'd like to buy the book and read along, you can do so here: https://amzn.to/2xoCBPI
Shit has really hit the fan for Atticus in these chapters. That damn cop has committed suicide-by-colleague, the gunshot wound that he was able to heal almost instantly is still going to cost him thousands unless he can sue the city, and the cops, namely Jiminez, are pretty suspicious of the fact that he's suddenly toting around a sword after the whole altercation began with someone spotting a sword.
Meanwhile, it turns out that the hot bartender is hosting a witch spirit inside her head, and that witch used to be seriously bad news. She claims to want to change her ways, but Atticus isn't totally convinced, and part of the deal they strike up is that if he helps her retrieve her necklace from Radomila, she move far, far, FAR away. Also, Radomila is probably not as benevolent as she appears to be.
Thanks so much for listening, and i hope you've been enjoying the show!

  • The Magicians' Guild- Episode 1: Chapters 1-4
Welcome to the first episode of my coverage of The Magicians' Guild by Trudi Canavan, brought to you by Ashleigh Dunleavy! If you'd like to grab a copy and read along, you can pick up a copy here: https://amzn.to/2MYKHsW
These first chapters establish a world where Magicians are part of an elite class of people, despite the fact that magic can surface in any class of person; unless you have the money for tutors and a magic-focused education, you're not going to be admitted to the Guild. In the cases when someone with magic is not deemed worthy, the Guild binds and suppresses that person's magic and then dumps them back out into the world.
Sonea is a lower-class girl who suddenly finds herself exhibiting powers she didn't know she had, and since the Guild sets someone on fire because they suspect he did the magic, it's quite understandable that she decides to hide. Not all the Magicians are terrible people, but they sure don't trouble themselves to make nice with the public, and Sonea pretty much believes them all to be monsters. Girl, I get it.
Thanks so much for listening, and thanks again to Ashleigh for starting me on this series!

  • Fire & Hemlock- Episode 4: Part 2, Chapters 3, 4, & 5
Hi my name is Natasha and I love this book.
But seriously, I do. And I wish I heard about Diana Wynn Jones way sooner because this lady is my bread, my peanut butter, and my jam. So thanks so much to Patricia Bing-Grant for commissioning Fire & Hemlock.
I'm finally starting to put a few things together this episode, although I'm so belated on a lot of it that it's almost embarrassing. It takes me until nearly the end of the episode to realize that the painting of the sad clown is related to Polly playing Pierotte in the school play, and it didn't even occur to me that the pendant her Gramma gave her was of any significance.
I am still constantly surprised, though, that Jones is able to get across such subtlety of character and such emotional issues in the context of this children's story. Good lord, it keeps catching me by surprise.
Thanks so much for listening! See you soon with a new episode!

  • Six Of Crows, Episode 2- Chapters 4, 5, & 6
Hello listeners! It's time for the newest episode of Six Of Crows, this episode sponsored by Jessie Pulverkuss!
These chapters are really fascinating to someone like me who is into little details of created worlds. I really enjoy scenes that serve only to set the stage for the characters (as long as they're done well, chock full of information and not too drawn out) because knowing more about the world they function within can often give a lot of context to the decisions they make. Sure, a character's past can be revealing and interesting...but describing their surroundings can even lend context to flashbacks, letting us know how far they've come (or not) and whether the circumstances of their pasts are unusual or de rigeur.
I'm kind of into Nina, because she's a Grisha and we haven't had a main character of that class yet, and because she's just such a good actress and liar. I'm always a fan of characters like that because they can lead to really fun hijinks, and I'm interested to see if her skills in that arena come into play at all.
Also, I'm dying to know what she did to make Matthias' first act upon waking an attempt to strangle her to death.
Thanks so much to Jesse for commissioning this episode, and I will see you all soon with the next one!

  • Iron Druid, Episode 3: Chapters 11-15
Many thanks to Susan Hayes for sponsoring the next episode of Iron Druid: Hounded! I'm really getting into this story now, and I have no idea what to expect next which is always a really fun feeling.
So this episode I'm covering the chapters where Atticus has the police absolutely all the way up his ass. They get called over because of the fight he had with the Fir Bolgs to start off with, but then it turns into a whole thing because fucking Aengus is obviously trying to set Atticus off. So they not only figure out that the park ranger was killed by a dog, they even know what kind of dog.
Then there's the whole thing with Brighid showing up. Now this bitch I do not trust at all. I don't know what it is about her, perhaps the fact that her motives are a little too pure and I never really believe that's ever the case when it comes to gods and fae, but also because of how skillfully she seems to wring information out of Atticus. Sure, one could argue that she doesn't "wring" anything from him and that he's just telling his new ally some valuable info, buuuuut...I'm not buying it.
Hope that you all enjoy the episode, and I will see you this Friday with the next 5 chapters!

  • So You Want To Be A Wizard- Episode 5
So this is the episode where a really good car-doggo becomes friends with our heroes like I had hoped. And then just as I get invested, Duane kills off good car-doggo and I'm really mad about it and I will never forgive her.
Oh and also, there's a dragon.
There's a DRAGON. Living in the subway tunnels! How amazing is that. I should have seen this coming from the BIG DRAGON IN THE IMAGE I KEEP USING FOR THIS SHOW. But no, I didn't see that coming.

  • Veronica Mars, S01E05- You Think You Know Somebody
So this episode of Veronica Mars was a bit of a shock, I gotta admit. I knew there was something suspicious about Troy, and my gut told me I didn't like him, but holy shit! A fucking drug peddler? Nope, did NOT see that one coming.
Thanks to Charissa for sponsoring this episode!
I really am enjoying seeing the relationship continue developing between Veronica and her father, too. It's a tough episode for the two of them, with him finally feeling desired and happy and hopeful about life for the first time in a while because of this woman he met, while Veronica feels hurt and betrayed. What a shitty circumstance. He winds up sacrificing that for his daughter, which was certainly the right thing to do, but god that sucks. Being a parent seems like the worst.
Meanwhile there's the whole thing with Luke, the dumbass, self-absorbed jock who thought that he could tell his little friend Logan about smuggling steroids into the US and that there would be no repercussions from it. This fucking idiot begs Veronica for her help, and then proceeds to whine and argue with her about every single suggestion she makes, and I sincerely wanted her to murder him. She has more restraint than me.
Thanks so much to everyone for listening, and I will see you next week!

  • So You Want To Be A Wizard- Episode 4
Thank you very much to Tristen Haidet for commissioning this episode!
Yo. I know I keeps saying with all the stuff that I've been posting that I "wasn't ready", but what I love is that with all of them I've been totally "not ready" in very different ways. And with this series, my lack of readiness refers to what bananas ideas this author dreamed up.
Kit and Nita wind up in a parallel, dark version of Manhattan when they fall through the Worldgate, and it's mostly populated by Perytons and evil machines that want to bite them, run them over, or swallow them whole. I cannot get over how straight-up fucking bizarre it all is, and I am HERE FOR IT.
Then, they run into one other human (who thankfully does not seem to see them) and manage to steal the MOTHAFUCKIN DARK BOOK and I'm over here wringing my hands like and anxious mom on the sidelines of an unexpectedly dirty soccer game.

  • Iron Druid- Episode 2: Chapters 6-10
Thank you to Aaron Schwartz for commissioning another episode covering Iron Druid! If you'd like to pick up a copy, you can do so here, and support the show as well! https://amzn.to/2CxCzL9
The next 5 chapters of Hounded are packed with action and interesting bits of information on how magic works, how Atticus does what he does, and all of that...but mostly what I'm interested in is all the information about witches.
I don't think there was any mention of the fact that witches even existed in this world, but we get an introduction to one in particular whom I find simply delightful in her nastiness, and she's part of a larger coven run by an even more powerful witch. Atticus isn't aware of what he's agreeing to do when he makes a deal with her to brew a tea that will make her unattractive, but when he finds out, it just spells way more bad news for him.
Thanks so much for listening, and hopefully I will see you soon with some new chapters!

  • Fire & Hemlock- Episode 3
Here goes an episode of Fire & Hemlock where I spend a little too much time talking about myself and almost run out of time to finish talking about the chapters. But damn did this section hit close to home.
However, that comes later. The first thing I talk about, of course, is how nuts it is that the very hardware store Polly and Mr. Lynn were pretending about actually exists, and how bizarre it is that the people who work there are apparently so similar to the ones the two of them had been imagining that they can recognize them on sight.
I really can't imagine what the hell is going on here, but I'm dying to find out. I mean, what is the point of all this? I'm totally baffled. And what does it all have to do with the photograph?
Thanks again to Patricia Bing-Grant for commissioning this episode, and I will be seeing you all again soon with a new episode!
