We're still out here on the open sea, and we're getting to see the fallout of the attempt by the Dara soldier to sink the Lyucan ship. Takval winds up actually befriending (this may be too strong a word but I'm going to go with it)a couple enemy soldiers because he's moved by their compassion for their dragon. There's a truly moving scene about that.
Also, one of the gods decides that he's going to give up his identity and become a mortal stowaway on the Dara ship, and I'm fascinated by this.

In these chapters, Lucan begins a mission to go and check out the Optasia, a seat that the Emperor has used to address Elder problems from afar, and see if there's a way to disable it. He decides pretty quickly it needs to be destroyed. Meanwhile, Shera takes a shower and long soak with Teach, and says that she will do her best not to kill the Emperor without informing Teach first...if she can help it.
