We did it guys; insert-arbitrary-number-here of episodes! After brief discussion of the weather and disease, our intrepid hosts mine the same evergreen wells as previous casts: FFX! Dr. Dekker! There are also some recommendations of The Witness and A Ghost Story, before the cast takes a sideways flying kick into the world of anime - Death Note, Naruto and Paranoia Agent all get a healthy natter-about. Also, the King of Segues makes a triumphant return... by accident.

This week's focus was of course Lucio Fulci's The Beyond - a dripping good time set in Swamptown, Louisiana. Following a rather inconvenient case of bricked-in-warlock-in-the-basement, the owner of a hotel that happens to be on a gateway to Hell gets some people in to renovate, who soon find their employment being... dissolved. Gruesome practical effects and the customary eye-gauging scene are deployed with aplomb here, so maybe don't sit in the front row. Plus, what an ending - nighmare fuel. Follow us, friend, on a boat trip to the bayou, and while you're at it, git outta mah state!

Our brains hurt! Chris has come down with more Final Fantasy the poor guy, but he doesn't seem to mind - in fact he's been getting high off the Final Fantasy X Remaster, and tries to push it on Tom, who now knows more than two facts about the game. There's a review of Supermassive Games' Heavy Agenda and the Icarus-esque flight it manages towards greatness, a decent natter about Silent Hill 2's endings, voice acting in Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid 1 and a fun digression into anti-piracy measures.

This week's focus is of course John Dies At The End, a fun if deliberately obtuse film - the kind that is taking you on a very strange trip indeed. The irony is John bites it about halfway through, but comes back - unlike Matt's microphone, which stayed dead. Determined to salvage a very interesting conversation, we chat about Paul Giamatti's involvement, Barkley, Marconi and the twisted soy-sauce itself. We couldn't explain it to you if we tried; much like Arnie Blondestone, you have to see the thing for what it is. Just don't ever look in the corner, a creepy spider thing lives there. We don't talk about the corner. Closing things out, Tom and Chris air their grievances with modern-day supermarkets and their fascination with offloading their jobs onto us! TAKE BACK YER JOBS!

Having just woken up and seeking stimulation, the guys focus on creating all the steaming, cloudy FOG FOG John Carpenter's THE FOG puns possible to make sure none get mist. Bound to being on topic, Tom's been on the Yu-Gi-Oh, and Chris is reminiscing about Pokemon Tourneys past. Striving to get us back, Matt's rewatched Twin Peaks 3 and revisited Silent Hill Homecoming, which leads on to an interesting discussion of the series post-Team Silent. Chris then launches himself into the breach with tales of For Honor and being taught a valuable lesson about the options menu. Other topics broadly lanced over include Alone In The Dark, Chinese click farms and Boris Johnson, obviously.

This week's focus though was the slow-burning piratey-ghost tale of The Fog. Following some seriously dark shit, from a man of the cloth no less, Antonio Bay is now the home of a curse with an oddly specific kill count. The master John Carpenter from beginning to end employs great technique to build tension, and for the most part succeeds - except for maybe the bloated middle. Still the guys can't help but lapse into reverential talk of Carpenter's Escape series (twice) on their way to the movie's rather unfair conclusion. I guess you might want to check out your family tree for heinous acts your ancestors might have committed - y'know, just in case.

On this week's episode, the guys are back fresh and very, very cold from a Winter holiday hiatus – now wrapped in cold reducing garments, having seen and played lots of interesting things, provide a slew of quick fire reviews and hot takes on horror titles. Chris brings a meaty discussion topic that provides an awesome debate on the finer points of effective horror films, touching on Dawn Of The Dead, Gerald’s Game, The Walking Dead and The Mist. How could we not talk about Thomas Jane? Just make sure you know where the key to your gun cabinet is.

This week’s homework was of course Clive Barker’s Undying – an unfortunately mediocre trip into the celtic occult of the Emerald Isle. Aside from the crass and insensitive cultural stereotypes regarding potatoes that we unreservedly apologise for, there’s not much to say… this is possibly the most mediocre 5/10 experience we’ve ever had. There are some interesting ideas but they’re lost in the bland, spralling dungeon that is stuffy old dude’s family home – complete with cheaty enemy spawns and a protagonist memorable only for his arguably dodgy accent. Ah well, dig in with us.

On this week's episode, the guys lay into the nightmares of work-based mania, as well as the worryingly PREDATORY tactics employed by the corporate merged mega-publishers of 21st century mobile ‘games’. There’s also healthy discussion on co-op based games, The Walking Dead 8A, representations of women in sci-fi with the highly anticipated 13th Doctor… and still time to engage in off-topic ramblings about audiobooks. The pièce de résistance is Tom’s unfathomably genius ideas on how to solve the obesity crisis gripping the Western world.

This week’s homework was of course Predator – one alien’s hunting weekend goes horribly wrong with hilarious and rather gooey consequences. With more sweaty muscles and evisceration than you can shake a well sharpened spear at, the guys sound off on their favourite bits, the silly jokes, the lore of the Predator, the undercurrent themes of machismo and prehistoric man’s history as a hunter-gatherer – it’s all here. Wrapped up in a neat wee Christmas bow, it’s the end of Season 1. We could only quietly hope in the deep dark recesses of our creepy little hearts that we’d stick the first year and it’s all because you, yes you, listen. So thanks for that. And sorry. We’re so very sorry.

Cue bodies exploding, TV screens that reach out, and stomachginas – if it doesn’t make sense to you, you haven’t seen the movie, because this is fairly accurate recapping. One thing however is for certain – Debbie Harry sure is messed up. Long live the new flesh!

This week’s homework was of course Pit And The Pendulum with the delightfully creepy Vincent Price turning up the Poe. From beautiful matte paintings to dusty, cobwebbed halls, this is a wonderfully nostalgic tread to the classic horror of yesteryear – complete with an advertisement against trying to drive your spouse mad and being a batshit adulterer. Yes there are monsters and ghosts in the halls of the Spanish castle but, as we cross the spoiler threshold into the beautiful twist ending, there is a kind of glorious catharsis to revel in. OH BARTHOLOME, come see this exquisite method of torture, it is called a PODCAST BARTHOLOME!

The guys go step by aching step through the plot of what is ultimately a love-it or hate-it film, that is 100% committed to every practical effect they can throw on the screen. Then we start talking about The Bye Bye Man again, because we just can’t get enough of such an excellent and well written character.

This week’s homework was of course Zombie Flesh Eaters SLASH Zombie SLASH Zombi 2: The Biters Are Back – a solid B movie with great ideas and themes, if a little of a clashing tone. Nothing quite says confused feelings like a three way battle between a naked lady, a shark and a zombie. The guys do a walk through the surprisingly entertaining plot, including one lady’s dalliance with her bedroom door and Peter West (cousin of Frank West)’s barbaric decision to hang onto live zombies for the purposes of evidence. This week’s homework was of course Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – the new game from Ninja Theory based around mental illness and collecting a whole lotta runes. Just be prepared for a whole lot of darkness. Darkness? Darkness. DARKNESS. The guys like the treatment of the mental illnesses, but feel perhaps the gameplay is not amazing.
