Episode Summary:
You’re not stuck; you’ve just drifted away from who you’ve become. In this episode, Ian Hawkins unpacks a powerful pattern holding high performers back; identity drift. Through a real coaching conversation, he explores why people who are doing everything right; building careers, leading families, growing personally; can still feel like they’re falling behind. The issue isn’t effort or ability; it’s the constant shifting of goalposts and the failure to acknowledge how far you’ve already come
Ian breaks down how misalignment between identity, goals, game plan, and purpose creates friction, confusion, and stagnation. When these elements are aligned, clarity and momentum return quickly. The episode offers a practical reset; pause, recognise progress, reconnect to what you’re in control of, and realign with your purpose. This is a must-listen for high performers who feel stuck despite making progress; a reminder that growth isn’t always about doing more, but about seeing clearly.

Episode Summary:
Round 3 of the NRL season delivered big statements; and even bigger questions. Ian Hawkins and Steve break down whether anyone can realistically stop the red-hot Penrith Panthers, who have started the season with ruthless dominance on both sides of the ball. From suffocating defence to Nathan Cleary’s complete control in attack, the Panthers look locked in; while the Broncos showed resilience with a gutsy comeback and the Storm raised concerns around their ability to close out big games. Across the round, momentum, possession, and decision-making under pressure proved to be the difference between contenders and pretenders
The episode also dives into the Bulldogs’ defensive strength but attacking struggles, the Warriors’ forward dominance, and the inconsistency holding teams like the Sharks and Knights back. With power rankings shifting, SuperCoach movers emerging, and early Wooden Spoon contenders starting to take shape, this is a raw, opinion-driven breakdown of where every team really stands after three rounds. The big question remains; are the Panthers already too far ahead, or is someone building quietly to challenge them?

Episode Summary:
You can be doing everything right as a parent or coach; but if a young athlete is carrying stress, you’re building on shaky ground. In this episode, Ian Hawkins unpacks the hidden impact of stress in youth sport and how it often shows up as injury, tightness, loss of confidence, or repeated setbacks. Drawing on his own coaching experience and insights backed by sports medicine, Ian highlights how pressure; from expectations, selection battles, school demands, and subtle parental influence; can quietly accumulate without young athletes ever voicing it. Instead, it shows up in the body and in performance
The episode shifts into practical solutions for parents and coaches; focusing on creating safe environments, improving communication, and helping young athletes focus on what they can control. Ian breaks down the importance of understanding each child’s unique wiring, removing unnecessary pressure, and guiding rather than reacting; especially in emotional moments like post-game conversations. The message is clear: reduce stress, build connection, and you don’t just improve performance; you protect your child’s love of the game and set them up for long-term growth.

Episode Summary:
What if the biggest thing holding you back isn’t your circumstances; but the meaning you’ve attached to them? In this episode, Ian Hawkins unpacks a powerful coaching insight around identity, perception, and the stories we carry from our past. Through real client experiences and personal reflection, he explores how people often stay stuck not because of what happened to them, but because of how they continue to interpret those moments. The challenge isn’t the event; it’s the lens.
Ian breaks down how shifting your perspective can unlock energy, clarity, and forward momentum almost instantly. When you stop reinforcing old narratives and start choosing new meaning, your behaviour changes, your decisions sharpen, and your performance lifts. This episode is a practical reminder that growth doesn’t always require more effort; sometimes it requires a new story. If you’re feeling stuck, frustrated, or repeating patterns, this is your invitation to rewrite the script and step back into alignment.

Episode Summary:
What if the real edge in elite sport isn’t talent; but how well do you manage pressure, identity, and long-term health? In this powerful conversation, Ian Hawkins sits down with Jason Chan, Chief Medical Officer of the Melbourne Storm, to explore the unseen layers of high performance. From fractured sternums played through in silence to Jerome Hughes’ rapid grand final comeback, Dr Chan shares raw insights into the physical and psychological demands placed on elite athletes; and why society often misunderstands the very traits that make them great
Beyond rugby league, the conversation shifts to longevity, stress, sleep, peptides, epigenetic age, and why modern medicine often waits for illness instead of measuring wellness. Dr Chan outlines his PK27 performance model; a data-driven, preventative approach to health that blends elite sport standards with everyday life. This episode challenges listeners to rethink how they invest in their bodies, manage stress, and take ownership of their long-term performance; not just to live longer, but to live stronger.
About the Guest:
Dr. Jason Chan
Director of medical services
Renowned for his three-decade career at the intersection of elite sport and medicine, Dr. Jason Chan has spent over 30 years guiding athletes and executives toward peak performance and longevity.
A graduate of the University of Melbourne, Dr Chan served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club, a role he’s held for more than a decade, helping shape one of Australia’s most successful professional sporting organisations.
Beyond the NRL, his medical footprint spans the Queensland State of Origin, Super Rugby’s Melbourne Rebels, Sunshine Lightning Netball, AFL/VFL, and international soccer.
Clinically, Dr Chan’s focus beyond the usual sports injuries includes concussion management, regenerative (PRP/BPC-157) therapies, and non-surgical osteoarthritis management. His philosophy is simple: deliver the same precision, insight, and outcomes used for elite athletes to every patient.
He’s also the founder of the Surgical Assistants Group of Victoria, supplying surgical assistants to Surgeons throughout the state.
Now, Dr Chan is spearheading a new frontier in performance and preventive medicine through PK27.com.au — a data-driven, precision-health program that fuses diagnostics, metabolic science, genetics, and peptide therapy to help high-performing individuals live longer, stronger, and sharper. PK27 brings the tools of elite sport into the executive and longevity space, turning medical insight into measurable performance.
When not on the sidelines or in surgery, he’s a father of five, grandfather of three, former Australian U18 doubles Badminton Champion, and a lifelong Essendon tragic, proof that some passions never retire.

Episode Summary:
Vegas week is here, and Ian Hawkins and Steve dive headfirst into the biggest talking points before kickoff. The headline? Xavier Coates sidelined for months and what that means for the Melbourne Storm; plus whether the Gold Coast Titans’ trial form is real improvement or preseason illusion. The conversation also tackles the Brisbane Broncos’ slow starts, Cowboys coaching pressure, and the Bulldogs’ unproven spine as the NRL season officially kicks off in Las Vegas
The episode rounds out with bold predictions for Cowboys vs Knights and Bulldogs vs Dragons in Vegas, plus cracking listener questions on Burton’s impact, Cowboys’ coaching survival, and whether the Bulldogs hype matches reality. It’s part tactical breakdown, part fan banter; but beneath it all is the big question every supporter is asking: who’s ready for round one, and who’s already under pressure before the season even settles?

Episode Summary:
Traditional sports journalism is under pressure; and in this episode, Ian Hawkins argues it may be in slow decline. The catalyst? A leaked text message from Melbourne Storm CEO Justin Rodski to NRL boss Andrew Abdo, asking him to “apply the blowtorch” to Parramatta over the Zac Lomax contract situation. What frustrated Ian wasn’t just the message itself; it was the public defence of it by senior journalist Brent Read, and what that defence reveals about access, bias, and influence within mainstream rugby league media
This episode is a candid critique of sanitised coverage, club relationships, and conflict-of-interest blind spots across traditional platforms. Ian contrasts that with the rise of independent media voices who aren’t tied to club access or television contracts. The core message is clear: when journalism protects relationships instead of asking hard questions, fans lose. If you care about transparency, accountability, and authentic opinion in rugby league, it may be time to rethink where you get your sports news.

Episode Summary:
In this episode, Ian Hawkins unpacks a powerful leadership tension that high performers often avoid: the gap between external success and internal alignment. Through a recent coaching conversation and personal reflection, he explores how ambition, growth, and drive can quietly drift away from identity if not regularly recalibrated. The episode centres on a confronting but necessary question; are you building something that actually reflects who you are, or just what you’ve been praised for?
Ian dives into the cost of chasing validation, the subtle pressure to maintain an image, and how easy it is to confuse momentum with meaning. Drawing on lessons from sport, business, and his own lived experience, he challenges listeners to redefine success through clarity, ownership, and alignment. The takeaway is simple but not easy; real performance starts when your actions match your values, and leadership strengthens when identity is chosen deliberately rather than inherited

The final NRL 2026 preview is personal. Ian Hawkins and Steve close out the series by breaking down their own clubs; the St George Illawarra Dragons and Parramatta Eels; with honest analysis, optimism, and a few brutal truths. The conversation covers youth pathways, forward depth, halves combinations, and the pressure points that could define each side’s season. For the Dragons, it’s about promising young forwards, leadership from Clint Gutherson and Damien Cook, and whether the halves can steady the ship.
