The TinCaps won their last 5 games in a row at home against the South Bend Cubs and are now in sole possession of first place in the second half standings of the Midwest League, meaning they have a playoff spot if they can hold onto that lead against West Michigan as they are off in Dayton to play 6 games against the Dragons. We hear about the roster and what Jonathon Mathews expects from his guys in this series in Dayton. Brett and Don go over the loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes that the Hoosiers suffered over the weekend. Kevin has been doing a fantastic job down in Indianapolis keeping track of all the latest going on with the Indianapolis Colts. Whether it’s attending practices in person, or going to the press conference with Chris Ballard yesterday! Brett gets Kevin’s impression of what he thought about Ballard’s comments at the press conference yesterday, including his comments about not signing Jonathon Taylor because last season they were a “four win team.” We also get his thoughts on Ballard’s comments about how the situation “sucks.” Brett and Kevin also do a deep dive into the Colts’ 53-man roster, as well as go through some of the notable cuts from the roster. Brett also gets some questions in about Anthony Richardson, who was also named one of the seven captains of the Colts today, as voted on by his fellow teammates. Brett asks Sam about what he thinks the expectations are for the Boilers this season, as he’s not quite sure himself. With a new coach, a new quarterback, and coming off a good year last year, it’s a little hard to guess what the Purdue team expects of itself. We also hear from Sam about the new Purdue quarterback Hudson Card and how he’s looked so far in preseason and practices and what Sam has heard from scouts and seen personally what Hudson brings to the table. We even hear about what kind of defense we expect the Boilermakers to have with some of the players returning to that side of the field, and some new ones as well. We are also joined in the hour by TinCaps Team President Mike Nutter, ahead of what is already the last regular season home stand for the ‘Caps that kicks off tonight against the South Bend Cubs. In Hour 2, Larra Overton, who appears across Colts media platforms as producer, host and reporter for Colts Productions, joins Brett on The Sports Rush! As someone who is around the team almost every day and has seen a majority of team practices as well as preseason games, we get a good idea of what Anthony Richardson is like, not only as a player, but as a young rookie who is expected to be a bit of a leader. We ask Larra how he’s handled being thrust into a bit of a leadership position at such an early start, and learn a fair bit about he carries himself. Brett also goes into some of the early games on the Colts’ schedule and we hear from Larra about some of the matchups and storylines in these early season games that she’s looking forward to seeing.
