This week on the Missouri Woods & Water Podcast the guys are joined by our buddies/family Russell, Brandon, and Pat for our annual pre elk trip show. This year's show was just more of a sit down, turn the mics on, and hit the record button type of show as the group of us really hasn't been together for a while. Hopefully the group that is going out this year will have some awesome stories to tell on the show when they get home. Thanks for listening!

In this episode Steve and Fred Moran cover a number of topics, the chief of which is Fred’s account of being shot while on a hunting trip in Wyoming. Steve supports Fred’s story with an account of a well-known raccoon hunter that experienced the same fate. Several stories from experiences in the not-so-tame West ensue, including Fred’s tale of a horse and rider wreck of major proportions. The nearly two-hour conversation covers writing coonhound stud ads, the age limit for a prospective coonhound to be purchased, the best coonhound in Fred’s long experience of hunting with hounds, his preference for major hunts to win and his experiences hunting squirrels with dogs. Listeners will want to make a trip to the fridge for a long cold one before settling down to an episode of “dog talk at it’s finest, nearly two hours in length.

Knife making is both an art and a science. In today's episode, Jacob continues to examine the dynamics of the steel composition of high end knives and the implications of that composition. There are a lot of steels that were created in the 1940's to 1960's (A2 Tool Steel, D2 Tool Steel) that were specific for the manufacturing industry and are still used in high end hunting knives today. But what do knife steels look like as they evolved in the early 2000's and what do knife steels look like now as they evolved in the 2020's. There are often tradeoffs between toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. But is it possible to create a steel that has balance across these 3 knife steel dynamics. And, if so, what options are out there now for those looking for that balance of properties. Thanks for listening and enjoy!
