The UN Security Council recently extended the mandate of the UN mission to Libya – known as UNSMIL – for another year, a move welcomed by Greek diplomats. This decision puts the spotlight on the situation in Libya, where the Tripoli government seems to be giving Turkey a blank check as we’ve seen with the recent illegal Turkish-Libyan MoU on energy exploitation and Ankara’s increasing military footprint in western Libya. At the same time, Athens has urged the US to press the interim government to come to the table with Greece. Expert Aya Burweila joins Thanos Davelis to break down these developments, what they mean for Greece and the region, and more importantly, how they are playing out within Libya.
Aya Burweila is a Libyan expert from Benghazi based in Athens, is the founder and director of the non-profit Code on the Road, and a BBC Woman Expert in Terrorism and Radicalization.
