Nl: In de rustige wintermaanden van Nederland, toen de vroegrijpende krokussen hun weg naar de oppervlakte begonnen te vinden, werden de Keukenhof-tuinen een vredige plek.
En: In the quiet winter months of Nederland, when the early-blooming crocuses began to find their way to the surface, the Keukenhof-gardens became a peaceful place.

Nl: De bloemen waren grotendeels afwezig, maar de belofte van de lente hing in de lucht.

Nl: "Eén interessante feit over de Tulip Tulipaan," vervolgde Bram, "is dat ze van nature groeien in..." Hij pauzeerde, zijn gedachten raceten.

Nl: "In...Koeweit?"
En: Koeweit?"

Nl: waagde hij een gok.
En: he ventured a guess.

Nl: Iris trok haar wenkbrauwen op.
En: Iris raised her eyebrows.

Nl: "Koeweit?
En: "Koeweit?

Nl: Bedoel je niet Turkije?"
En: Don't you mean Turkije?"

Nl: corrigeerde ze hem, met de glimlach van iemand die meer weet dan ze laat merken.
En: she corrected him, with the smile of someone who knows more than they let on.

Nl: Bram bloosde, maar hield zijn hoofd fier omhoog.
En: Bram blushed, but kept his head held high.

Nl: "Ah, ja, natuurlijk."
En: "Ah, yes, of course."

Nl: Maar zijn facade begon al te wankelen.
En: But his facade was already crumbling.

Nl: Uit de hoek van zijn oog zag hij Jasper sceptisch glimlachen, terwijl hij de borden las die de precieze soorten van de bloemen introduceerden.
En: From the corner of his eye, he saw Jasper smiling skeptically as he read the signs introducing the precise species of flowers.

Nl: "Is dat een Hyacint?"
En: "Is that a Hyacinth?"

Nl: vroeg Jasper plagerig.

En: Bram replied quickly, happy that he could identify this relatively simple one.

Nl: Maar het was duidelijk: hij kon zichzelf niet meer verbergen achter zijn onkennis.

Nl: Toen ze een plek bereikten waar kale takken een subtiel rasterwerk van schaduwen op de grond wierpen, stopte Bram abrupt.

Nl: "Oké, oké," lachte hij.
En: "Okay, okay," he laughed.

Nl: "Jullie snappen het.
En: "You guys get it.

Nl: Ik weet eigenlijk niet veel over bloemen.
En: I actually don't know much about flowers.

Nl: Ik wilde gewoon een goede tijd met jullie hebben."
En: I just wanted to have a good time with you."

Nl: Iris en Jasper barstten in lachen uit.
En: Iris and Jasper burst into laughter.

Nl: "Bram, we vinden het geweldig dat je het probeerde," zei Iris terwijl ze hem klopte op de schouder.
En: "Bram, we love that you tried," said Iris as she patted him on the shoulder.

Nl: "Precies, en wat we missen in juiste feiten, compenseren we met goed gezelschap," voegde Jasper eraan toe.
En: "Exactly, and what we lack in accurate facts, we make up for in good company," added Jasper.

Nl: Ze besloten samen dat het niet uitmaakte wat ze precies van bloemen wisten.
En: They decided together that it didn't matter what exactly they knew about flowers.

Nl: Ze genoten van de frisse lucht, de natuurlijke eenvoud van de wintertuin en de vriendschap die hen omhulde.
