The rich man had no reason to be kept from the Kingdom of God, right? Jesus immediately finds the thing that has held him back and tells him how to correct, but he walks away. What is holding you back? What is God calling attention to?

Jesus challenged the faith he belonged to, he called the people to deeper piety and perfect faith. In doing so, he challenged the religion of his people, the rules and regulations built around their faith. When does ritual and tradition get in the way of your relationship and walk with Jesus?

It’s impossible to know where the path of faith will take us. It’s even harder when that path leads us away from family, friends, and home. Jesus was rejected by those who watched him grow. What do we do when we find that our own path leads to rejection?

Mark 2:13-17, The Calling of Levi and a Feast with the Disreputable

The old adage goes, “You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep.” Jesus, Son of God does not keep company with the “respectable.” No, he spends his time with the least respectable. Serving our neighbors means serving those who need it most. Love for our neighbors extends past the boundaries we set up, defying our comfort and convention.
