This Sunday, we will be considering James 4:1-10. In our postmodern, post christian world of Canada what are the obstacles to embracing a relationship with God the Father and receiving wisdom. Someone once said that humility is the gateway to wisdom. Review the passage and consider how you can prepare yourself to gain wisdom.

This Sunday we return to our ongoing study of the book of James and being a Christian in a Post-Christian Culture. Many in the postmodern world look for meaning and purpose by reflecting on the past to find meaning in the present. Our passage of study this Sunday is James 3:13 -18. Verse 13 says, "If you are wise and understand God's ways, prove it by living an honourable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom." This Sunday, Boxing Day is rooted in this verse, "... doing good works with humility that comes from wisdom." Two historical figures associated with the Christmas season will be used to guide us in understanding wisdom as it relates to good works.

Galatians 4:4 and 5 says, "... when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons." The purpose of Advent is to remind and prepare us to welcome Jesus into our lives.

This fourth Sunday of Advent is about our response to the good news. Our willingness to respond to the Father's love by joining our hearts to his heart and partnering with Him to extend His love to all those around us.

But what does that partnership look like and what does it require of us? I John 4:19 says, "We love each other because He first loved us." So, this morning we are considering this what this partnership looks like.

Advent means 'coming' in Latin. During the four Sundays and weeks of Advent we prepare our hearts for Christmas.

Hope is joyful anticipation. We celebrate and remember the joy of Jesus the Messiah coming. We continue to have hope because of all that the gospel entails and because He is coming again! Isaiah 11, Revelation 21:1-5, 1 Corinthians 15

What is faith? Maybe faith is the outcome or result of spending time together with a person. That person becomes a friend, a confidante. Why? Because you see them in action and you come to trust them. You know their heart and you trust their responses to the world around them. When you only read about a person and all the great things they have done, can you claim them as a friend? This Sunday, we will be looking at what it takes to claim God as a friend. Please read James 1:19 - 20.
