This Sunday we will be looking at James' conclusion to his discussion concerning facing trials and temptations. Read James 1:1 - 15, realizing that verses 16 - 18 are James' conclusion to this discussion. So how are we to live in our post-christian, postmodern society?

Today we are looking at James 1:12 - 15 and considering the nature of temptation. As the passage says, temptation starts with ourselves. In our post-Christian, postmodern world temptations seem to multiply and the challenge that we face is how do we cope? We will be looking at I Corinthians 10:12 and Galatians 5:22, 23 as we consider how we can cope with the temptations of this world.

This Sunday falls on the Thanksgiving Weekend and it is also Communion Sunday. How appropriate. Another name for Communion is Eucharist, a transliteration of the Greek word for Thanksgiving. In the Eucharist we are:

Thankful for what Jesus accomplished through His sacrifice

Thankful for what the Holy Spirit accomplishes in us because of His sacrifice

Thankful for what the Father will accomplish in greeting us in Heaven because of His sacrifice

In preparation for Sunday consider reading: Psalm 118 and I Thessalonians 5:18.

Most of us have "dropped names" into conversations to add credibility to our story or ourselves. A sly way of boasting about who we know or associate with. But our relationship with Jesus Christ becomes the great equalizer ... Jeremiah 9:24 directs us to boast in the fact that "we know God himself". On Sunday we will be looking at James 1:9, 10 to start this conversation, when is boasting OK? Also read 2 Corinthians 2:14 - 17.
