We have entered what's called "Ordinary Time" in our liturgical cycle, the season between the Feast of Pentecost and Advent. During this period, we will be exploring areas of development in the life of our congregation, St. Aidan's in Kansas City, MO.
In this message, we follow the three phases of Pentecost (1) the Holy Spirit comes upon Hebrews and Hellenistic Jews; (2) the Holy Spirit comes up Samaritans; and, (3) the Holy Spirit comes upon the Gentiles. We are still living in phase three as the Holy Spirit continues to come and break down cultural barriers separating us from each other. The Church at Antioch (Acts 11-13) gives us a gateway into the first missionary sending ... within a worshiping community, the Holy Spirit spoke to send Barnabas and Saul for the work appointed for them. We are starting here to begin exploring what the Holy Spirit is saying to us about mission in our city and the world.
