Jesus told three parables about being lost – lost sheep, lost coin, and lost son – each of which would have had particular resonances for his hearers. There are different ways in which people can be ‘lost’ to Jesus’ kingdom, and that matters for the task of the church in seeking their restoration.

The writer to the Hebrews commends Rahab's faith to us. But we don't find out much about the inner workings of Rahab's mind. Faith, in Rahab's case is something quite simple: a confidence in the Lord for the future on the basis of the past.

It is easy to say that we believe in 'Salvation in Christ alone', yet do our lives really back that up? Do we live in dependence on Him and Him alone, or do we listen to the siren voices of the World that promise satisfaction, fulfillment and joy from innumerable tempting sources? Let us hear again the words of Peter here; "Where else shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
