Donald explores the characteristics that God required of Israel’s kings: understanding that their authority is derived from God; being subject to God’s moral law; and avoidance of the temptations of money, sex and power. To this may be added Jesus’ requirement that leaders should be servants of those they seek to govern. Donald then considers how these desiderata might be applied to contemporary political leaders.
