In Revelation chapters 2 and 3 Jesus addresses 7 churches calling them to covenantal faithfulness. These messages reveal the heart of God for the Church in every generation and are key to us understanding the pastoral intent of John's vision.

In order to read Revelation correctly, we need to approach it the way we need to every other book in the Bible: understanding its genre, its context, its purpose, and its place in the story.

If our understanding of the book of Revelation seems more aligned with the lyrics of 90's heavy metal bands, we may not be reading it right.
