Sainthood is simplicity of faith. The Lord gives us many examples of saints and their holiness so that we may emulate them and begin to exude a fragrance. One that is a pleasing aroma rising up before God and also that it may attract those around us to glorify God and to seek Him more wholeheartedly.

Sin burdens us until we can carry it no more. It weighs us down and seeks to master us and in turn turns us away from the very One who can take alleviate our burden and loosen every bond of our sin. The story of the sinner woman receiving forgiveness from our Lord reminds us that those who have been forgiven little love little and those who have been forgiven much love much.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Cross. The Cross is a symbol not of weakness but of power for us. It is a reminder also for us to take up our own crosses that the Lord bestows upon us, so that we may share in His sufferings as well as His glory. Christ never promises to us that the Christian life is easy, rather He says to us that it is filled with tribulation, but to take heart for He has overcome the world. Let us not rest on our own strength, but let us be reminded of His faithfulness to us and to pick up our own cross and follow Him.

God created us to be in union with Him. Yet we reject Him daily, so how can we turn to Him and love Him with all our heart? Michael helps us to understand the consequences of sin and how out of God's love for us He reconciles us to Him.

Know yourself. St John the Baptist was the greatest born of women and yet for us if we hold fast to Christ we are greater than he. It is enough then to know yourself as St John did by saying that he must decrease and Christ must increase. This is a model and example for all of us to know ourselves so that we may realise that without God we are nothing. In turn this leads us to cry out to him with three words that encapsulate all of salvation, "Lord have mercy".
