What if we tried building the kingdom that was a community with no more pain. No more crying. No more tears. Isn’t that what we’ve been taught to pray.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy (your, not mine, not my parents, not my circle ) your kingdom come, thy will be done (your vision) on earth just as it in heaven. Listen as Pastor Jevon guides us to know whose Kingdom we should be building.

Without needing to rehearse any more of the Church’s sordid past, let’s talk this morning about why the church is here in the first place, and what it looks like when serves it purpose well.

How could people who act in the name of Christ believe horrible actions represent Jesus? What Jesus had they come to know and believe in? Of course, there are many examples we could name through history of what happens when the church gets it wrong. Let‘s talk about when the church gets it right...

The Bible is the story of Salvation History, in which history should have a hyphen (His-Story), meaning it is God’s story. If the first step of faith is to understand how our story is a part of God’s story, then the next step is to understand our spiritual history, or His-story. So today we continue our STEPS series as we think about the importance of the Bible in our spiritual journeys.

This morning we begin a series that is important not only St. Luke’s present but St. Luke’s future. We are introducing a curriculum that will be like an entry point to the discipleship process of our congregation. If the purpose of the church is to make disciples, then what does a disciple look like, and what is our process for nurturing someone in their development?

Over these past three weeks, hearing Pastor Rob talk about being the role the church needs to play I thought of a series of movies that started 1996. I think they are on movie number 6 now and plan to two more. But if you seen one then you’ve seen them all. Tom Cruise plays the lead role and he’s part of a secret organization that dismantles plots to take over the world. Just about every movie starts off with him receiving an impossible mission.  Join us as Pastor Jevon tells us how to overcome this impossible mission we face in life today as we become the Church God calls us to be.

This series on The Church the World Needs seems to have hit home for many of you. Over the last couple weeks I’ve gotten a number of emails and texts saying the issues we’ve addressed are right on target for the call of the church at this time. We’ve considered how the church at its best is accommodating and welcoming of all and seeks to reduce conflict rather than create it. Well, today, at the risk of contradicting what I’ve said so far, I want us to think about how our world also needs a church that creates disturbance and is not always tolerant.

What does it mean to be the church in times like this? How do we foster basic Christian values like grace, compassion and understanding in one of the most divisive, uncivil periods in our nation’s history?  Join Pastor Rob Fuquay as he helps us understand that a model of civility is how St. Luke's and the people of St. Luke's can be the Church the world needs.

We begin a series today called The Church the World Needs. Certainly the world desperately needs a church that draws people in and helps them experience the acceptance of God. This is the moment hes been waiting for.. we’ve spent 5 weeks looking at the life of Joseph and it all started with a dream. A dream that saw his brothers working out in the fields and their bundles of wheat bowing down to his bundle of wheat. In his second dream, he saw the son moon and the stars bowing down to him. And it seems so far off because there was nothing about his current life that gave any indication that this was a possibility. Until now. Until today.
