Father Andrew Petiprin, rector of St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church in Orlando, Florida begins a series of teachings on C.S. Lewis's apologetic classic Mere Christianity.

Here Fr. Andrew gives some background to the text and explores Lewis's Preface, in which he writes:

"I hope no reader will suppose that 'mere' Christianity is here put forward as an alternative to the creeds of the existing communions - as if a man could adopt it in preference to Congregationalism or Greek Orthodoxy or anything else. It is more like a hall out of which doors open into several rooms."

Fr. Andrew Petiprin discusses the western Catholic practice of Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and its place in an Anglican/Episcopalian life of devotion to Jesus. Fr. Andrew expands here on a recent essay he wrote for Covenant, the weblog of the Living Church Magazine.

"Religion" is not a favorite word in our culture, but we are all religious. Christians pray "increase in us true religion," and religions is activity both inside and outside of the context of the Holy Eucharist. Pride stands in the way of true religion, and Jesus shows the right way in his parable with the Pharisees in Luke 14.
