God revealed himself to the patriarchs

He is the God of promise and election

He requires the obedience of faith

In the case of Israel

God told Moses that he would deliver Israel from slavery to prosperity Ex 3:1-8

The promise he made:

He will save and assemble Israel at Horeb Ex 3:11-12

He was their God and they will be his people Ex 20:1-2

They were to keep his 10 commandments

The commandments he gave:

They were to love him Ex 20:3-11

They were to love their neighbour Ex20:12-17

The ten words expounded Ex 20:21-23: 33

They covenanted to be God’s people Ex 24:3,7

In the case of the church 1 Peter 2:9-17

God chose us as his own people to declare God’s deeds

We live under God’s Grace

From darkness to light

From no people to God’s people

From no mercy to mercy 1Pet 1:1-2, 2:9-10

We are to glorify God

Abstain from the passions v11

Maintain good conduct v12

Subject to the God appointed executors of justice v13-15

Live the free life of God’s servants v16-17
