April 4, 2018 - What is a Sacrament? God takes the stuff of earth that He has created, blesses it...consecrating it for His holy use, and through that which He has created He acts on man's behalf. This homily reflects on the Oil of Holy Unction for the sick. We come to understand God's will and purpose for this Sacrament by looking at the prayers He has us pray as He sets it aside for the healing of body, mind, and soul.

April 4, 2018 - Jesus proclaimed that He has the power to lay down His life and the power to take it up again. This reflection focuses on His power to lay down His own life as a pure and perfect example of humility. It is as we take on this humility in our own lives that we experience the healing grace of God unto the transformation of our souls.

April 1, 2018 - The Early Church used iconography to teach the truths of the Christian faith to the people of God. On this Palm Sunday, we look at the icon of this great Feast Day in order to discover what the Church has always taught about our Lord's triumphal entrance into Jerusalem. In the icon we can see what Christ came to offer and we are also taught how we may receive the King and all of the benefits of His Kingdom.

Today's Catechism Class is an open question and answer session based on anything those attending the class have a question about.

In this session we look at Hebrews Chapter 13 which is the conclusion to the Epistle to the Hebrews. We find that the conclusion of this letter is done in similar fashion to most of the Epistles. This conclusion is broken down into three main parts. First, there is the call to the Hebrew Christians to a holy and virtuous life. Secondly, they are reminded of the order God has given the Church which is given for the life and salvation of all. Finally, we have the blessed benediction.

March 25, 2018 - On each Passion Sunday we hear the Gospel reading from St. John in which Jesus, while in the temple, declares to the Jews and Jewish leaders that He is the Great I AM. To best understand what He is declaring to them, we look at Exodus 3 when God first declared His Name to Moses through the burning bush. There God tells Moses that He has heard the cry of His people and has come down to deliver them and bring them up to a good and large land. Today Jesus declares Himself to be the Great I AM who has heard our cry and come to be our final and eternal Deliverer.

At the end of Hebrews Chapter 12 we are given yet another comparison of something from the Old Covenant that is fulfilled in the New Covenant. The writer of Hebrews tells us that we have not come to Mt. Sinai as did God's people under Moses where they turned away in fear from what they saw. Rather, those in Christ come to Mt. Zion in the company of the blessed angels and those made perfect in Christ. This session explores the differences between these two experiences of God's people and how much better is our experience of God upon the mountain because of the finished work of Jesus Christ.

March 3, 2018 - The theme of this Sunday each year in Lent is rejoicing. Lent, while certainly a season of allowing our Lord to bring us to repentance, is a season of joy and new life. Why? Because of the healing work of Jesus Christ in the lives of His disciples who call upon Him with an authentic cry for healing. We rejoice because of what is on the other side of repentance.

The liturgy is what God has given His people to draw near to Him where we can offer ourselves to God and He can offer Himself to us. This catechism teaching discusses the liturgies of the Church and begins to instruct as to the structure of the liturgy common to them all.

Having just concluded the great list of men and women who are credited for their great faith, the writer of Hebrews says, "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses cheering us on, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race set before us." This session is a lesson on how we are to run the race where the prize is God Himself and the result is our enjoyment of Him forever.
