        • The pandemic drove women out of the workforce. Will they come back? - POLITICO
        — Sandee Barrick was making a six-figure salary as a salesperson when she quit her job in December 2019 to move to North Carolina. She had planned to return to work as soon as she got settled, but she was still enrolling her younger son in school and switching over her driver’s license and registration when the coronavirus pandemic hit and everything shut down. At first she made plans for when she went back to work, but slowly that shifted to if she would go.
So far, at least, she hasn’t. Barrick, a 51-year-old mother of two, worries sometimes about her 401(k) and the money she could have been adding to it over the past 18 months had she been working. She worries too about her elder son’s college tuition and what she would do if the cost increased or financial aid decreased.

Melissa Mackenzie is Publisher of The American Spectator. She works and lives in Houston, Texas with her two sons, one daughter, and one dog.

Melissa joins us to discuss the new trend of women leaving the workforce to enjoy full time motherhood. She writes:

"This phenomenon is happening all across America, and that’s a good thing. And yet liberal media outlets frame this story as a bad thing. For instance, Politico said the pandemic dealt a “resounding blow” to women’s workforce participation. The Politico article describes one woman’s decision-making process over whether or not she should go back to work..."

          — friend of mine owns a cleaning business staffed with 10 women. During the pandemic, work came to a screeching halt. As things opened back up and her clients got vaccinated, the rush was on. Everyone needed their homes and offices cleaned again. The problem? Six of the women had decided not to go back to work. Their families reassessed their priorities and realized that mom staying home made a positive difference. The money wasn’t worth it.

Andrew Gruel, is an American chef and television personality, who appeared as a judge on Food Network's Food Truck Face Off and is the founder, CEO and executive chef of Slapfish Restaurant, a seafood restaurant franchise based out of Huntington Beach, California.

Chef Gruel is also the creator of The 86 Restaurant Struggle: A fund that is helping struggling and out of restaurant workers. The fund was created because Restaurants in the U.S. are in an "economic free fall" amid the ongoing spike in coronavirus cases and the forced shutdowns, with almost 20% of dining establishments around the country having closed permanently since the start of the pandemic.

The 86 Restaurant Struggle has raised over $420,000. All of which raised will be re-distributed directly to restaurant workers, via checks and electronic platforms, who have either lost their job or are in need of a small leg-up to cover rent payments, medical bills, childcare or any other day-to-day help.

                — This week, the political and media class emotionally marked the six-month anniversary of what they call the January 6 “insurrection.” The commemorations were reminiscent of an elementary school kid who insists on celebrating their “half birthday” — a juvenile self-indulgence, but understandable for a child. Less so for adults who are supposed to be governing the country.

                • — Where use of incarceration is concerned, thoughtful criminal justice advocates tend to draw a distinction between those to be “scared of” versus others “we are mad at.” This makes sense. Conservative leaders in Tennessee, led by Gov. Bill Lee, are enacting policies that recognize this distinction in order to improve the overall effectiveness of the state’s criminal justice system.
The 2021 Tennessee legislative session brought comprehensive criminal justice reforms championed by conservative leaders. Right on Crime proudly supported these reforms for the immediate and long term, positive impact on public safety. Two bills championed by Governor Lee passed; the first, to expand and improve the overall effectiveness of alternative sentencing policies in Tennessee, and the other, the Reentry Success Act, will improve the likelihood of an individual’s successful integration back into the community following release. Moreover, Tennessee lawmakers joined law enforcement to champion policing reforms aimed at improving law enforcement training, and to address certain police practices relative to interaction with the community.

                        • Critical Race Theory & Education: The Point of the Anti-CRT Fight Should Be to Take Over the Schools | National Review
                        — The danger in the current fight over CRT isn’t that the right overreaches, but that it settles for too little.
To believe the critics, the anti-CRT forces have already gone too far — they’ve established speech codes, they’ve trampled on the free-speech rights of public-school teachers, they’ve banned the teaching of slavery

                      • — While school choice policies are overwhelmingly popular across all major demographics, Black parents, when provided a definition of those policies, support them to a higher degree than white parents according to a new survey from EdChoice.
The survey, which included 405 Black parents of K-12 students as well as a nationally representative sample of 1,134 K-12 school parents, shows 81% of Black parents favored vouchers, 10 percentage points higher than the supportive share of white parents. Notably, there was no difference in support between low-income Black parents and high-income Black parents.
Meanwhile, 80% of Black parents support education savings accounts compared to 76% of white parents; support for charter schools is slightly higher among Black parents at 74% compared to 73% for white parents.

                      • — Parents Defending Education is a national grassroots organization working to reclaim our schools from activists promoting harmful agendas. Through network and coalition building, investigative reporting, litigation, and engagement on local, state, and national policies, we are fighting indoctrination in the classroom -- and for the restoration of a healthy, non-political education for our kids.

                          • No, Republicans Will Not Win Anything By Bowing Down To The Left
                          — I am always wary of those who purport to speak for their respective generation, and a recent New York Post op-ed by a self-espoused libertarian student at New York University put on full display exactly what the Republican Party must abandon in the years ahead.
In close to 700 words, writer Rikki Schlott calls for the GOP to “compromise on social and environmental issues and stand up to leftist extremism,” ignoring that these two are different sides of the same strategic coin. Schlott concedes a talking point that merely assists the left in its campaign to smear Republicans — especially those in Gen Z — as operating in “extremist fringes” who need to be like their predecessors and champion old neoconservatism.
