In this episode (recorded during Ireland's second lockdown) Sinéad, Peter and Isaac talk about the challenges of creating a sound experience for live-streaming as opposed to a theatre or venue; from technical equipment and software at both ends, to emerging technologies that are developing to suit new needs.
They also share their experiences in theatre, where sound design has been, in general, brought in very late in the process, and the difficulties this entails at many levels.
For Isaac, sound should be a main part in developing the theatre narrative and therefore sound designers should be a key part of the creative process.
They also reflect on the lack of sound design training or education specific to theatre, sound design being by nature very interdisciplinary, and the implications of such.
Finally, they talk about collaborating with other designers, and issues related to terminology, like the sometimes not very clear difference between sound designer and composer, and the implications of conflating both roles.
We hope you enjoy it!

In this podcast Saileóg, Enda and Peter talk about their different journeys, the importance of knowing all the aspects and roles involved in costume design, the significance of developing a trusting relationship with actors and the collaborative nature of the craft.
They also reflect on the the differences of designing costumes for different art forms on stage and also of designing for stage and for screen, theatre being a more intimate working environment than big-budget films; and finally they consider the impact of technology on costume design and its pros and cons.

In this episode we talk about the impact of COVID-19 with Liam Doona and Ger Clancy, both designers and lecturers at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology - IADT.
In this conversation they share deep reflections on how the pandemic has affected the sector in multiple ways, how it has made it very evident that the arts ecosystem needs re-thinking since a vast majority of people working in the arts are in a precarious position, and its consequent impact on mental health; how it has affected the nature of teaching and forced to reinvent teaching methodologies, and how important it is to educate children from a young age to be creative and appreciate the arts in order to have sustainable, long-term models in state legislation. And, finally, how creative thinking has been adopted in recent years by corporate models as a key element not just to develop new products but also to create better working environments.
Overall, Ger and Liam make excellent reflections on the lessons we should learn from this unprecedented situation.
