More than 50 Greater Boston theatre companies of all styles and sizes will unite onTuesday, September 10 in the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts (539 Tremont Street, Boston) for the first annual Greater Boston Theatre Expo. The public is invited to attend the free event held from 5:30pm to 7:30pm to meet representatives and artists from the region’s fringe, small, mid-sized, and large theatre companies, to get information about upcoming productions, and to take advantage of Expo-only ticket offers and giveaways.

Jeremy Johnson interviews John J King in this "One on One" episode of "Live from the Library". John's most recent play is "From Denmark with Love", a James Bond/Hamlet mash-up. 

BIO: John J King is part Texan and part Tyrannosaur. He lives in Boston where he makes plays | art | music, and scares little children who thought dinosaurs were dead. He has a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Boondocks and an accent from his mama. Goals include recording a great dance tune, making impossible things from cardboard, and singing in a girl group.

Julie Hennrikus asks Roxanna Myhrum "What is Puppetry?" in this latest "Live from the Library". 

Roxanna "Roxie" Myhrum is the Artistic Director of Puppet Showplace Theatre (Brookline, MA) and a stage director of opera, theatre, and puppetry. In Boston, she has been a puppetry coach and director for numerous regional and university theatres including the Huntington Theatre Company, the Lyric Stage Company, Gloucester Stage, Company One, Underground Railway Theatre, Wheelock Family Theatre, New Repertory Theatre, Boston College, and Suffolk University. She has been a collaborating director on three full-length puppet shows including Brad Shur's The Magic Soup and Other Stories, a pick for the 2013 National Puppet Festival (r)Evolution. Myhrum was a part of the Eugene O'Neill National Puppetry Conference's resident company for over a decade and had the privilege to work with dozens of puppetry artists from across the country on the development of innovative puppetry performances. Myhrum is a native of Springfield, MA and an honors graduate of Harvard University.

Jeremy Johnson interviews Costume Designer Molly Trainer in this "Live from the Library: One on One" coversation.

Molly Trainer (USA 829) is a Boston-based freelance costume designer for theater and media. She also creates commissioned works and provides consulting services for individuals and organizations.

In 1999 Ms. Trainer undertook a major career change to devote herself full-time to costume design, following several years designing costumes as an avocation while working in the medical industry as a specialized clinical technician, educator and Product Manager. Since then she has she has earned awards and nominations for her work, designed shows, including more than a dozen premiers and been an exhibitor for The World Stage Design Expo.

Ms Trainer has a special interest in mentoring young designers, and has been speaker, adjudicator, instructor and workshop leader for various theater organizations, colleges, and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

Ms Trainer earned her BS at Northeastern University, studied photography at the University of the South and design in Boston at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and The School of Fashion Design. 

In this "What Is?" edition of "Live from the Library" Julie Hennrikus interviews Artistic Director Sherrie Johnson and Associate Curator Georgia Lyman of Outside the Box. The conversation started with a discussion about "curation" of festivals, and moved on to a bigger conversation about this summer's festival.

Sherrie Johnson: Artistic Director

Sherrie Johnson has developed an international reputation as an innovative and accomplished curator, artistic director and producer of critically acclaimed and award-winning, theatre, dance, film and performing arts festivals.  Sherrie comes to Outside The Box, after six years with the renowned PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, in Vancouver, Canada. She was Senior Curator at PuSh for the last four years. She has more than 20 years of experience presenting, commissioning, producing, co-producing, and touring live performance, including working as a producer for Thomas + Guinevere’s “The Encampment,” a public art installation that had its premiere in June 2012 at Luminato’s Festival of Arts + Creativity. Sherrie previously was the Pitch Producer for the Under the Radar Symposium as part of New York’s Under the Radar showcase and was Pitch Curator of Caravan, New English Performance that is presented as part of the Brighton Festival in England. Sherrie was the Touring Liaison and Curator of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival in Canada in 2006 and 2007. She was the Producer of Canadian content for the International Network for Contemporary Arts (IETM) in 2007, a membership organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. She was the Canadian Producer of Celebrate Scotland; the Co-Founder, Producer, Co-Artistic Director of the Six Stages Festival in Toronto, Canada; and a Production Assistant for the du Maurier Arts World Stage Festival. She received a bachelor of science degree in criminology and theatre and a master of science degree in communications from Indiana State University and studied at the University of Toronto’s Rotman Executive Program. Sherrie was a recipient of the John Hobday Award for outstanding achievement in the field of arts management from the Canada Council for the Arts in the first year the award was given. A Chicago native, Sherrie and her family reside in downtown Boston.

Georgia Lyman: Associate Curator

Georgia Lyman is an actor and producer working in Boston.  She is currently the Associate Curator for the Outside the Box festival.  Georgia was a founding member of Orfeo Group, which won the Eliot Norton award for Outstanding Fringe Production three times in their 5 year career. She has performed with the Lyric Stage, New Rep, Speakeasy, Stoneham, Publick Theater, Actors Shakespeare Project and Orfeo Group. She was nearly an internet sensation twice with the web series Snarkipedia and Serial Huntress. TV and film credits include The Makeover, Brotherhood, Law & Order:SVU, The Town, and the upcoming films RIPD and Larry David's Clear History.  She is currently nominated for an IRNE award for her solo performance in Chesapeake.

Jeremy Johnson interviews Karen Perlow in this "One on One" interview. Karen is a freelance lighting designer in the greater Boston area.  In addition to working at most of the local midsized theaters, she teaching lighting design at MIT.  She is a 3-time recipient of the IRNE award for best lighting design.  As a former member of the StageSource board, she was influential in organizing the first REPA (StageSource) Job Fair. 

Jeremy Johnson, the Member Services Manager of StageSource, debuts his "One on One" interview with this podcast. His first guest: Larry Coen. An award winning director and actor, Larry Coen has been honored with Elliot Norton awards for his productions of The Divine Sister for SpeakEasy Stage and Phantom of the Oprah for the Gold Dust Orphans.. Larry also serves as the Artistic Director of City Stage Company which provides free arts education programs and performances for low income kids and families. In addition, he is a playwright and co-wrote the Broadway comedy Epic Proportions. His most recent directing venture, the Boston premiere of Chinglish, played to full houses at the Lyric Stage Company of Boston and has garnered him a Best Director IRNE nomination.

"Live from the Library" presents a "What Is?" podcast. What is Audience Development? Kami Rushell Smith spends a few minutes answering that question for ED Julie Hennrikus.

Kami Smith is a Boston-based actress, producer, and arts administrator. She has appeared on stage most recently in The Mountaintop at Central Square Theater. She has performed locally with SpeakEasy Stage Company, Lyric Stage Company, New Repertory Theatre, Wheelock Family Theatre, and many more. Kami also is co-founder and producer of The Cabaret Series, a unique evening of contemporary song and story in residence at Central Square Theater. By day, she is the Regional Account Executive for the state of Massachusetts with Vendini ticketing. Kami is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon and the Boston Conservatory.
