A lot of businesses have their organization’s core values posted up somewhere on a wall in the building, in a corner of their website, and even on employee’s desks! And some organizations have worked hard to get their employees to memorize the core values and be able to tell someone those values at the drop of a hat. An F4 tornado ripped through my community last month. As someone who is called to develop leaders, I cannot ignore the leadership lesson emerging from my processing of the entire event.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing two specific potential “disasters” many organizations are being warned about right now. What is interesting is that although the warnings are being sent out, few are working on or preparing to mitigate the risk. My fear is that you may hear the warnings, but not heed the warnings…just as I did regarding the tornado in December. I don’t want you to find yourself white-knuckling your past success as unstoppable destruction happens among your organization.

I believe you can. It starts by you getting to know your people better. When you know YOUR EMPLOYEES -- not the employees surveyed by researchers -- then your employees will give you answers on how to lead them in a way that will make them stay and go all in.

Mental health doesn’t matter at work if you don’t care about performance, employee retention, and the culture of your organization.

If you do care about the performance from your team and retaining your best employees, then it’s time (maybe way past time) to address the mental health of your individual team members. Many of today’s employee’s demand the mental health concern from their employer’s and leaders.
