Mary welcomes guest Richie Furay for our first Testimony Tuesday, as we look at his full and storied life as a member of pioneering bands Buffalo Springfield and Poco.  With all that success, what drove him to his knees? How does a person reconcile or intersect the unique life of the spotlight, in the definitive 1960s no less, with the calling of a pastor and troubadour for Jesus? When he returned to Ohio for his Hall of Fame induction, he had a moment of clarity, that those two lives, and all the craziness, were both him, and God was in every moment. Sometimes we have a hard time reconciling our “two lives” as believers, we run from who we were in shame. But God. We talk to him about the early years, the fame years, and the ministry years. Richie and Nancy have been married since 1967, and as the family has grown up, their seasoning and maturity in Christ has had an impact for eternity.  Keeping up with his energy level is always a great way to spend an hour.

[Originally aired: 5/4/23] Chuck Girard, singer, songwriter, recording artist, and worship leader, is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Christian Music. He was co-founder and lead singer of the group LOVE SONG from it’s beginning to the present. Born in Los Angeles, Chuck began playing music at an early age. In his teens, he formed a group called THE CASTELLS, which had two national top 20 hits. They also released the song “I Do”, which was produced by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Chuck shared the stage with stars such as Roy Orbison, Jan and Dean, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Vee, and others. This led to a successful career as a studio singer and musician which included singing the lead vocals on THE HONDELLS first two albums and their biggest hit, “Little Honda.”

In his early twenties Chuck became disillusioned with life, and like so many of his generation began experimenting with drugs. This led to a five-year search for God through LSD, eastern religion, and a committed “hippie” lifestyle.

After years of searching for meaning through drugs, Buddhism, sex, and Eastern philosophy, a long-haired hippie musician walked his bare feet into a little country church and encountered the living God. Confounded by the simplicity of the gospel, a young Chuck Girard dedicated his life to Jesus during the height of the sexual revolution and civil unrest that characterized the decade of the ’60s. Along with thousands of other “Jesus Freaks” who came to be known as the Jesus Movement, Chuck’s story was only just getting started. This raw and honest memoir is both refreshing and convicting.

Mary welcomes back Usama Dakdok to lay a firm foundation on who exactly owns that contested piece of land called “Israel”. Usama was born in Egypt and grew up in a Christian home. While in government schools in Egypt, he learned about Islam just as every other student does in a Muslim country. Usama also studied for a university degree in Egypt which included the study of Sharia, Islamic law. He first came to America in 1992. With all of his knowledge about Islam, he felt he could reach out to Muslim people in America with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus he began The Straight Way of Grace Ministry. Today we ask ourselves, how did the world come to swallow the narrative of a land called Palestine and Palestinian people? Is it largely to erase Israel’s claim to the land? It seems to be the Lie of the Century, when it comes to Bible prophecy at least. And all that antisemitism today? That’s about that piece of land too. God’s Word ties their redemption to that piece of real estate, so of course, it IS about that. Always educational with Usama.

We take a look at the latest shunning of mRNA tech, and it’s good news, as is the report that all federal records of those who had resisted or been exempted from the jab will find that their records have been destroyed. It’s funny how that season of tyranny is finally past us without so much as a “gee you rebels were right all along” acknowledgment. We also take a look at a different form of tyranny in the EU where starting in October, the Powers That Be will be spying on their citizens’ chats. No surprises there. Climate change, economic meltdown, natural disasters (“birth pangs”) and AI takeover of the human race all contribute to apocalyptic fear and fervor. We look at the exponential increase of these types of films over the last 100 years, as well as headlines that invoke fear. To what end? There are multiple answers to that question, but they do include keeping the masses fearful and in crisis mode, but also it plays right into the anticipation of the man with the answers – the Antichrist. Is there also a fear of death that these movies seem to bring actual consolation? Perhaps, since the phrase, “post-apocalyptic” is so common today, and describes those who have survived the worst and lived to tell, and renovate, and repopulate. A fascinating subject that ends with our hope, and how to spread that instead of terror.  Pete Garcia is a military combat veteran and aviator, writer, researcher, speaker, and teacher of Bible prophecy and apologetics with a BA in International Relations and a graduate of the US Army’s prestigious Command and General Staff College. We also discuss an insidious bill in the California Assembly designed to empower the state to control children; we look at those who have weighed in on that. Another topic is the Mesquite, TX mosque and its proselytizing of children who attend taxpayer funded schools. We don’t necessarily need to explore who is behind it, but rather ask ourselves how is this being allowed to take place at all? Finally, we talk about EU censorship that has gone so far down the rabbit hole there is no going back. Today Mary continues what she started back on July 24, looking long and hard at anxiety and the plague of worry that has many Americans – and a considerable number of believers – tied up in knots. Oftentimes, unfairly, we simply throw a Bible verse at a person who is living in a pattern of anxiety, as if that is an instant cure. And, technically, it is – but there is something about the hole of anxiety that seems to require some critical thinking, AND doing, to get free. Anxiety, and it’s offspring, depression, (Proverbs 12:25) are not what God has for us, and so if we do find ourselves in such a season, there is no reason to founder and get sidetracked, or worse yet, shipwrecked. There are several practical things we can do and there IS a way forward. We look at psychology, an opposing worldview that offers no hope, and we talk about all the ways that anxiety wants to get hold and linger, even through spiritual warfare. Our enemy does not play fair. So, we will stare this down together and come away with tools to help, including getting past being our own worst enemy from time to time. Overcomers, we are.

Tim and Mary take a look at the latest news cycle, with the specific underlying theme of the greatest headline in a generation, that of the modern nation of Israel. Much of the church has left the position of Israel being the main player in God’s last days plan. What are some of the things we are following right now?  The UN and their obsession with a 2-state solution has caused the world to think that 1) if they say it often enough it will happen, and 2) it IS the solution to the “Mideastmess”.  Israel expert Jim Fletcher asks the question, “what will happen when France (and other co-conspirators) declares a Palestinian state? Absolutely nothing. The US and Israel are nowhere to be found here politically or philosophically. Also today we talk about the 9th of Av, an annual commemoration and period of mourning in Israel that occurs each Summer at some point. This is a day to remember the destruction of both Jewish temples, but so much more – a very interesting dot-connecting exercise.
