JOY celebrated its 22nd birthday on 1 December. As part of the celebrations, the station held a party for its patrons – people who give significant donations that go a long way to helping JOY stay on air.
Stand Up Straight was honoured to be part of the party by inviting a number of the patrons into the studio to chat about why donating to JOY is important to them.
A significant part of the station’s funding comes from the JOY Patrons Program – it currently exceeds the money gained through memberships.

In the lead up to World AIDS Day, Clayton sans Michelle, had a chat to Matthew Powell from Straight Arrows. Matthew has been HIV+ since his teens and shared his inspirational and education story.
Clayton was also joined by Tex McKenzie from the Victorian AIDS Council (VAC) to discuss what is happening around World AIDS Day. Charlie Sheen even gets a mention.

Dr Matt Dunn
In this episode, the Stand Up Straight team chatted to Dr Matt Dunn, senior lecturer at Deakin Uni in Health, with a specialty in drugs in Alcohol.
The team discussed whether drugs make you more likely to contract HIV, drugs and alcohol in the GLBTI community and even if medical marijuana is a good idea.
It was a fantastic show and the team hopes to have Matt back again.

Reflecting on Mental Health Week, Michelle and Stephanie were joined in the studio by Emma Formica and Charlie Cooper, volunteers at youth mental health initiative, headspace. The group discussed the importance of mental health, how we can help anyone with their mental issues and how to access the services of headspace.
